I was at the game, sat in the West Stand, a win after all those defeats including a 7:1 in the brown kit. Some great players in that team!!!
You forget how good this team was. I didn't have a season ticket but Dad would buy us tickets ad hoc depending what shifts he was on, some weeks the West End, sometimes Sky Blue Paddock or even the wooden crows nest up on the frozen frontier of the Spion Kop, I quote enjoyed floating around the ground like that. This is the team that got to the two legged semi against West Ham in League Cup, deserved to win something, some wonderful wins under floodlights I remember with Tommo up front!.
Yes I was at that game standing on the old Spion Kop terrace. That West Brom team seemed to have a hoodoo spell over the sky blues in those days, including that 7-1 hammering dished out to the sky blues during the 78-79 season. The sky blues wore their infamous chocolate brown strip in that 7-1 defeat at The Hawthorns. That 3-0 victory meant an awful lot to sky blues fans at the time.
More than likely i was in the west end that game ,cant remember ,good win , PUSB !!!
We (Pompey) bought Mark Hateley around 1984. He had one great season with us and then we sold him to AC Milan for £1 Million!
Hugh 'Mr Magoo' Johns with his 'close' and 'very tight' opinion of the diabolical offside decision against MH!
Albion out of sorts but a deserved win for Sky Blues. Steve Hunt very talented youngster at Villa, only played a few first team games but moved on by Ron Saunders. Remarkably returned nine years later, played consistently well but sadly the club suffered relegation to the Second Division under boss Billy McNeil.
Fabulous goal by Blair but he may have had injuries whilst at Villa where he never really excelled or pulled up any trees.
