Idk about in the US but where I live, the standard of competency is the ability to discern right from wrong and act according to that understanding. I think they may have said that because if he was angry, then he understands that he's being treated wrongfully and is acting according to that understanding. Obviously I can't say for sure and I don't necessarily agree with the statement. Just wanted to maybe help shed some light on the context.

What many people dont think about is the fact, that getting out of jail tends to be much easyer then getting out of an mental institution. Your jail time is fixed and you get to leave after that said time is up. But there is no limit on how long you can be considered "insane" by some doctors. On top of that, some "loony bin" tends to be a very bleak and boring place, since a lot of the people in there are drugged out of their mind and cant be trusted to do recreational stuff.

Why are court cams (I mean the actual cams, not the series) so low quality?

Same with laying new sidewalks and making visible NEON street signs in Midwest states. The taxes are collected and allotted for it but, the work never happens or happens slowly. So, it may be decades before courts upgrade the cams to 4k.

I will never understand why people would deliberately do that. A mental hospital or psych ward is arguably WORSE than prison, and if they are considered incompetent or insane, all they’re doing is delaying the trial until doctors declare you competent enough to stand trial. The charges don’t magically go away just because you’re clinically insane.

Why would they have a rule where they remove the defendant’s cuffs, especially when it’s for a violent crime? This can’t be the first time this has happened. King County has some of the stupidest laws.

Depending on the defendant, people in the stands would wanna harm them. And should anything go wrong, they would need to remove to defendant from the room as quick as possible. It’s just a whole ‘nother can of worms
