I find this video stupid, because malay and chinese are literraly the same race, both are yellow race. Only indian are difference considered race.

Especially the Malays? In Singapore since grandparents generation there were lots of interracial marriage. I'm one of the byproduct and if you go around asking you're bound to come across Malays of mixed ancestry. I don't know about Malaysia but in Singapore that's kind of the case for all races, regardless.

I'm a Malay Malaysian and we were never taught to stay away from other races (idk where did you hear/know that, maybe some not all) but we really appreciate and respect other races . Btw I'm into interaccial relationships but unfortunately didn't find one yet. 😝

Because in malaysia, once you marry a Malay, you must be forced to enter Islam, and you cannot change it for the rest of your life, which is why most people resist/avoid being with Malays. If there is religious freedom, I believe there are already many interracial marriages

I am watching this in Africa and I love seeing people unite. Race, religion, and tribes shouldn't be a problem in finding love. I am so proud of these young couples for not being worried about what people are thinking of them but focusing on their happiness.

My father is Thai-Chinese and mom is Filipino-Spanish. Luckily, they didn't have in-law problems from both sides. But when my mom took my dad to Spain, that's where he encountered some racist/rude remarks for being in an interracial relationship with my mom. There were even men who tried attacking him physically (happened in the 80s). We ended up going back to Manila then settling here in Bangkok since 1996.

Super interesting to hear about how people experience interracial relationships in Singapore, since I'm only exposed to how it's like in North America 🤔

Great interview! Got a lot of wonderful insights from the couples (: It's true what one of the interviewee mentioned, "Know your priorities" Personally, as a Muslim, I would prioritize religion more, hence, I will choose to marry someone who has the same religion as me. As for the race, I am quite open, but my mum doesn't allow me to date other races other than Malay so this is quite conflicting. But we'll see when the time comes. InsyaaAllah, everything will fall into place (:

Hi, it'll be interesting to hear in more detail about how the couples handle religion particularly the Muslim and the non-Muslim couple. The Islamic religion is pretty demanding from a lifestyle and social/family perspective and I suspect the non Muslim would need to convert if this couple were to get married...

Agree. I’m black and my boyfriend is mixed race. Some would not consider it interracial some do but immediately the ‘problem’ (not with us but parents) was the fact that he grew up Muslim and I grew up Christian

There are 5 races in Asia - South Asian, Southeast Asian, East Asian, West Asian/Middle Eastern and Central Asian. Race is biological. Ethnicity is cultural. This is for the people saying "but they are all Asians so it isn't interracial"

More often than not They had to convert to Islam and their children will be identified with the muslim/malays first before they see themselves as indians. I also know a chindian girl in Malaysia. She also married a malay guy. And more things it's not a question why malay or chinese girls often picked indian guys. It's more like why indian guys often picked malay/chinese girls and why chinese/malay guys rarely choose indian girls.

In Asia, we have a different concept of race. In the west Asian Americans are under one banner since all of the ethnic groups are minorities. However, in the East, Asians identify with regional identity in contrast to the umbrella term “Asian” since they compose the entirety of East Asia, Southeast Asia, and South Asia.

So I didn't understand this about Asians. But I do understand now, Asians do have such diverse ancestry (Africans do as well), but I guess it's a culture thing, as you said.
