the woman there(like model) is have a movie squid game.

its a metaphor eluding to the story of cupid (hoyeon), the psyche (micol), and venus (tony). this is the painting of love and psyche they were looking at in the beginning. newjeans are her guardian angels i believe, because they are the only ones that can see her. hoyeon is cupid, her job is making people fall in love. but she fell in love with a human- micol. and she abandons her job and just follows him around hopelessly. he can't see her, no humans can see her. (when she looks at the mirror, she has no reflection). at the end of side a, where she takes her clothing off in the rain and looks up at sky, it symbolizes her asking to become human, her own way of striking herself with cupid's arrow. side b picks off where side a ends, she is now human and we can see that because yes her clothes are different, and people can now see her-- micol can see her. they start falling in love throughout side b. at the end, tony (venus/aphrodite) takes revenge by making hoyeon into a cupid again- thus nullifying her human status meaning micol can't see her and he forgets about the time they shared. ultimately, tony made him fall in love with someone else (that girl on the street) because she disobeyed her job as cupid its such a heartbreakingly beautiful music video, with a deep meaning and a retelling of mythology. everyone wants love and deserves love, whether they are human or otherworldly deity/being

It's the story of Cupid and Psyche. This was beautiful! That's the painting they were looking at in side A looks like Love and Psyche.

Apparently he did it as a favor for his Korean fans. I'm guessing Min Hee Jin or Shin Woo Seok (director) has far reaching connections because Tony is world class. I saw every movie you listed above (even that Marvel movie just for him, lol). He is Hong Kong's crown jewel, a muse (especially for Wong Kar Wai), a living legend.

the way i understood the mv is that hoyeon and newjeans are “demons” or mythical creatures of some kind, hoyeon sort of being like a cupid? and she starts falling for the guy who can’t see her and she’s absolutely fascinated with him. newjeans are watching her because they are concerned since she isn’t allowed to love humans and at the end of the first mv she takes off the clothes which make her invisible, that’s why when she’s wearing normal clothes he can see her and they probably have a relationship of sorts? and tony leung seems to be like an equivalent of a “higher up” among the mythical beings which forbids hoyeon from loving the man and makes it so he can’t see her anymore and her presence makes him fall in love with the other girl

I think the black costume even means her power, she chose to give up her species power in order to be able to fall in love with that guy. That's reason why at the end of MV Side B, she no longer remembers who newjeans is but just enjoys their performance. My theory is still flawed as to why she remembers who Tony Leung is but not newjeans. I hope someone can fill my theory

This music video is actually about Cupid and Psyche story. (Ima try my best to make it understandable) The painting is the central important theme of the mv. It's called L'mour de Psyche. Simply the beginning (Hyeon, who's actor in Squid Game) the Cupid mainly does her own tasks and makes people fall in love. She found herself in love with a human as willing to be the man (Psyche). Here's my breakdown for shorten passage: The Cupid is mainly invisible in the Psyche eye's, she mostly follow him around how she's in love with him during Side A of the music video. The ending of Side A when she was considered to be naked mainly she trying to make herself visible (to be in love with the Psyche, the man) from the rain going angelness (turning into a human being but still a cupid), that's why Side B she went to his apartment, then completely sees her. NewJeans are angels or muses watching over the Cupid (Hoyeon) btw. Afterward the ending of side B; there was a man (the old man, actor named Tony Leung who's actor in Shang-Chi and many more + quite shocking to see him in the music video) he's called Venus part of the story as the father of Cupid (I'm not 100% if he's the father btw) and hates the Psyche to be in love with the Cupid. At the ending where the Cupid was waving at Psyche (the man), the Cupid was in shock seeing him (Venus) there since she's a Cupid while having a forbidden love with the Psyche. That's where Venus saw the Cupid was in love with Psyche and made Psyche fall in love with the girl beside the Cupid. Mainly, when Cupid lost her person, that she loved was Psyche. Then, she (The Cupid) went back to NewJeans (the angels or muses) as she can't be in love with a Psyche anymore since Venus broken it. I hope this make sense. + I love this concept sm that NewJeans is making because of these types of myths and Greek Gods storys that I learn back in fourth grade! If I miss any information just tell me because I'm still understanding the story

This is my personal running theory about the story of the MV's. In the first one (Side A), HoYeon's character is a sort of cupid. No one can see her, and the people she looks at, seem to fall in love. This happens in the elevator, and in the museum, and possibly other times as well that I can't remember right now. She then finds this guy who doesn't seem to fall in love with others, even when he is in the same positions where it has worked before, eg. the elevator. She finds this fascinating, and starts following him everywhere. She ends up falling in love with him, but recognize that she can't be with him, because he can't see her. This is shown when she is in his bedroom, and she can't see herself in the mirror. Because of this, she decides to give up her powers as the sort of cupid, which is indicated by her taking off her black outfit. She knows it works, because she can feel the rain on her. (I'm not sure if this rain part is correct, but this is the only time we see her get hit by the rain, and she seems to take it as a confirmations that she exists in the real world now. But I might be very wrong about that) In the second MV, we pick up after she becomes a normal person. She goes to his house, and he can now see her. (another detail I'm not sure about, is that I think the man had seen her in visions or in dreams, since it seems like he already had painted a portrait of her, which is seen in his living room. But I might be confused by some timeline stuff, and he painted that after they got to know each other) They end up falling in love with each other, and living happily, until the day when they are at the crosswalk. HoYeon sees the man with white hair, who wears a black outfit, signalling that he is also a sort of cupid. She recognizes this too late, and the new cupid makes the man fall in love with the woman behind HoYeon. I still haven't figured out what the last part of the MV is about. The part where they sample the other song. It might be them trying to give a positive message at the end of an otherwise sad ending, by showing that HoYeon doesn't give up on love, and goes out there again. But I am really not sure. A bit of a long explanation, but I hope others think the same way as me 😅

NewJeans tells the story of forbidden love (she is cupid..she can make people fall in love, not fall in love) . While the video shows the longing and struggle of the story, the lyrics talks about the kind of love that just feels right even after in the midst of doubts.

This MV based on the Greek mythical story of Eros and Psyche, Hoyeon's role with a good performance representing Eros and a male actor representing Psyche. Eros, who was hard at falling in love with others, falls in love with Psyche, but there is a scene in which Lieung, the role of Aphrodite who hated Psyche in the myth, interferes. And it's my interpretation and opinion on this MV N the 5 members of Newjeans who are watching this can be interpreted asFive angels! the real ANGEL. haha ADOR MIN HEE JIN N MV director Shin is made a magical piece~~!!

My take on this: It's the story of Voluptas, the Roman goddess of pleasure and delight, the daughter of Amor and Psyche. Giving short moments of sensual enjoyment to the people around her, she's invisible to the human eye - and only the graces, always by her side, are witnesses to her works. Falling in forbidden love with a human, like her father before, she decides to shed her divinity for the man of her dreams. Only to let her father show her, that in the end, everything she'll ever give and get is another fleeting moment of bliss.

Just a theory like every other... but it's more plausible to me without some gender-changing shenanigans in storytelling. ^^ First of all, we see François-Édouard Picot's painting "L'Amour et Psyché" hanging in the Louvre - the (Roman) mythological backstory has already happened! We see Hoyeon's invisible character, awakening desire and lust in the people around her - it's not love, and it's not sustainable (seeing the man from the elevator breaking up with the girl shortly after). So she is a higher being with powers - a god, a demon, a ghost? We already established Roman mythology, so let's go with goddess... Just a jump to the end, Tony Leung's character is clearly a fatherly figure from the same plane of existence: invisible too, with powers, acquainted with Hoyeon's character, an age difference fitting for a presumed father-daughter relationship. So if he really is the father - going back to the story of the painting, he should be Amor, who in the end married his forbidden love Psyche after she was made immortal. Their daughter became the goddess of pleasure and delight, and it's just the things Hoyeon inspires in the people around her. Going back to the scene in the museum, where she stands side by side with the object of HER desire - I got the feeling of "My parents did, why can't I?" And NewJeans as the Graces, the entourage of Venus, often accompanying Voluptas as well? It's just fitting... ^^

To your point about how familiar the beat sounds, NewJeans' borrows a lot from breakbeat, so there's a good chance any beat you hear them sing over has been sampled before. For example, Super Shy uses the famous Funky Drummer loop, sampled in the Powerpuff Girls theme! This more downtempo UK garage sound is such a perfect fit for them. I'm so stoked for this album to drop!

I’ve never watched Side B, but when it got to the end, it reminded of this book I’m reading about a cupid. Cool to find out that that’s what it’s about 😁

The story of a goddess who wants to feel love as a human being and angels watching it. It's a personal interpretation. Please watch it for fun. And it looks like it's Eros here. In the first appearance, two strangers make each other kiss in the elevator. Hoyeon becomes curious about how she feels when she sees such people. I think that in the art gallery, the painting of an angel who makes love with humans and is confused represents the theme of this video. In Side A, Ho-yeon eventually takes off her clothes and tries to put down her Eros' ability by expressing that she is getting rained on and become a normal human being. In Side B, that's how you make love to a man you encounter in a museum. But the brewer on the crosswalk stops time and puts everything back. The man doesn't recognize her and people don't recognize her again. It looks like the role of absolute God. In this whole video, NJ looks like angels who melt into human society and watch humans. He watches Hoyeon, an Eros who is out of his role, from a distance. In Side B's final Get Up, it felt like Ho-yeon was coming back to where he had put down his power, and the angels, NJ, were performing a ritual with a dance.

Back in 2008 the singer IU's debut MV was 'Lost Child'. The video was a gender-swapped retelling of the Greek legend of Orpheus and Eurydice where Orpheus enters the underworld to find his lost bride. So its especially interesting that NewJeans would come out with another gender-swapped retelling of another Greek legend.

It’s Greek mythology. Look up the story of Cupid and psyche. It explains everything. It’s an ongoing story of obstacles of the love between Cupid and psyche. That guy in side b is psyche and she is Cupid in side a. That’s why she was following people on side a. She was pairing people up. But she found love even though it’s not allowed as a Cupid. So NewJeans playing a type of entity, saw that and shed that off of her so that she can find love and be seen but then psyche was jealous and it’s not allowed so he took her love interest away from her. It’s like le sserafim’s eve psyche and the blue beards wife back story.

Are we not all mythology girlies? I'm surprised by the lack of recognition of the storyline. It felt very on the nose for me, like they legit just showed the Cupid and Psyche painting.

TONY FKN LEUNG IN THIS MV!?!?!? Legendary actor from China (western world would probably know him from Shang-Chi), so i’m assuming that’s why the default for the captions is chinese all though when I clicked it, it was still in english too. And the female lead in this is also the female lead from Squid Game! The reason I would say this song already sounds familiar is because the production is still utilizing the same house/uk garage/break beats that Super Shy also used but overall the synths and the way they’re singing in this is more mature? Definitely more of an R&B cadence to the way they are singing in this and it’s dope and gets me excited to see what they’ll do in the future already. So far this album feels pretty inspired by what Pink Patheress does and I’m here for it. Newjeans always brings that feeling of nostalgia and borrows from that early 2000s sound! my interpretation of the MV is jo yuri (the lady in black) is a cupid, falling in love with a normal person. and then NewJeans are the angels. At the end of side A, the cupid revealed herself and become his couple, but on side B, the cupid suddenly became hidden again by the power of the old guy (probably god, idk) because cupid and human love is forbidden. and the angels (newjeans) are the witnesses of that event to be happen.

The girl is HOYEON, from the squid game series. The story is based on the mythological story of Cupid and psyche. Hoyeon is Cupid and she can make people fall in love but can’t fall in love herself as people can’t see her. New jeans are her guardian angels.. cupids job is making ppl around her fall in love but she comes across psyche and falls for him. forbidden love basically. the scene when she shreds her clothes is basically her shredding the cupid title and becoming human so she can be with him . However VENUS, (Tony Leung) finds out and turns her back into cupid making her partner forget about her and not being able to see her. to punish her for falling for a human he basically makes psyche fall for a different human girl. in the original story cupid is a guy and psyche is a girl but they switched the roles for this. ppl are also speculating that new jeans play the muses in greek mythology who tell the stories. i personally think new jeans are the ones that snitched on her to venus cuz they’re the only ones that are constantly watching her throughout the videos . ❤👏👏

She falls for him and sheds her muse-dom to become real. The rain allows her to shed her muse-dom. She pursues the artist and becomes a real life muse for the artist… An elder muse who can’t see Hoyeon makes the artist fall for someone else. It’s him seeing her/her desire for him to see her that makes her real but the elder muse breaks that. Things change. One day you’re someones muse and the next day your not. Your whole pov on that person changes.
