GIDLE is so damn special. How do you have a discography that sounds like Latata, Hann, Uh-Oh, Hwaa, Nxde, Tomboy…and Dumdi Dumdi? Soyeon is insane. I love how even though they don’t have the big money and hype of a lot of the other groups, they’ve managed to carve out their own lane in the industry and, if you’re being objective about it, they should be included in any conversation about leaders of the 4th Gen. Such a scrappy group that has gone through so much and because they’re self-producing, have been able to be much freer to be themselves compared to the controlling norm that is this industry. They get to have fun, not be so guarded about their public image, and really make the most out of the idol life. And much credit to Neverland, too, for being more chill than most other fandoms. The fandom really reflects the group I think. Chill, funny group…chill, funny fandom. Edit to add: how could I forget about My Bag and Oh My God??? The discography is crazy! And oh, Put It Straight may be my favorite B-side of all time. It’s so spare, but so emotional and impactful. Soyeon really baring her artist’s soul in that one.

Soyeon produces and created LION specially for Queendom. She is a genius. Gidle surpasses everyone, I cannot believe this was their "start" or at their debut. The girls aura and presence are phenomenal, the lyrics are so deep, their performance is fantastic, i adore them.

LION was my choice for SOTY in 2019, I think it's that good. In LION you will note the full screen shots are in black and white, their outfits are plain and they're bare foot. All scenes in color are within the lined gold boarders. Soyeon explained that the black and white scenes represented freedom and independence of a Lion, verses the other scenes in color that were confined within borders. Obviously, she did a better job explaining it than I just did. DUMDI DUMDI did it's job, looked like you two had alot of fun listening to it. Lion is phenomenal. It would have been my SOTY if RV hadn’t released Psycho.

On "Lion"'s Aspect Ratio, they do 4:3 shots on the member shots in the "rooms", and then 16:9 wider group shots. I believe it's just to emphasize solo shots vs. group shots. Interesting fact about "Dumdi Dumdi". It came after Lion & Oh My God, and was the summer comeback before Hwaa. Cube didn't really think it was strong enough, but Soojin was the one that encouraged Soyeon to go forward with it, and it ended up being the song of the summer. It also has a special distinction of Miyeon singing nearly the entire chorus by herself---evidence that Idle does indeed distribute lines based on the member's voices: Miyeon has a very energetic, crisp voice with a bright timbre in comparison to the more airy-toned Minnie and dark-toned Yuqi. So it makes a ton of sense that she was featured in their bright summer song.

Soojin 😢 Lion Era sky rocketed Gidle to my top 3 groups and Soojin was my favorite Idol outside BP. Feels so long ago 💔

One reason the outfits are (relatively) simple in "Lion" is that the MV was put together in less than a week following the final episode of Queendom. CUBE does a lot of stupid things, but they were on the ball capitalizing on (G)I-DLE's Queendom success as quickly as possible. There was no time to design and create custom outfits, so they rented designer clothes and used some of their Queendom outfits, and the white bare backdrop was easy to film. The CGI on the lions was weak but it was all that could be done in like five days. But it was incredibly smart to put out an MV before people forgot about their Queendom performance!

Well if nothing else these 2 songs/mv’s show their range as artists!

For the longest time, when asked, Soyeon would say that LION was the best song she's written. Now, I don't know if she'd say that post-NXDE, but she was rocking Lion phones cases and t-shirts for the longest time. For DUMDi DUMDi, Soyeon wanted to try something new, something they'd normally never do. Soojin was the one who suggested a fun summer song. At first Soyeon was iffy on the idea, but Soojin said she knew it was be a big shock for fan and a hit. The others got enthucistic at trying something like that, which sold Soyeon. Soojin ended up being right. DUMDi DUMDi did very well when it came out. Unfortunately it's sort of been lost in the shuffle since release (given (G)I-DLE is known for high concept/message songs), but you can't deny this song still slaps.

Fun fact! Dumdi dumdi was the 2020 summer bop fr. This mv gained 17m+ views im the first 24hrs. Charted soooo good in korea charts and itunes

Dumdi Dumdi is not the only song u missed You missed: -"Senorita" its their second Comeback after Hann (Alone) and their second mini Album -"I´m the Trend" made by Minnie and Yuqi (its like a song for the Fans), came out right before Dumdi Dumdi -"Last Dance" its not rlly a comeback of them but its a song of them with a MV, but it was right at that time, where all the things with Soojin happend, so she has no Lines in the Song (her original lines were taken by the other members) and was cut out as much as they could from the MV, but u still can see her bit in in the dance parts

The MV is still fun, though. I mention that one because I do not see it in the playlist. Lion is one of the best pop songs I've ever heard. This and the Nightmare version of 'Out it straight' are by far my favourites by them.

Two of the best (G)I-DLE songs, for very different reasons. (Though Oh My God is still my ult song) You guys should definitely check out the I Burn EP.

The video tells a story, especially with the outfits choices. If you noticed every chorus the outfits change. Its like a "From Rags to Riches" type of story. From the beginning they're are in very plain simple almost blah outfits and by the end their dressed like royalty.. I think its a under used tactic in videos to use outfits/costumes as a main part of the story telling visually. Atleast to me it seems under utilized.. And DUMDI DUMDI is easily one of the greatest summer bops of all time!! No questions asked!
