Disco was about dancing and nightlife. If you hated disco back in the day it could be because you didn't dance. It was very polarizing. It doesn't mean it sucks. And even if you hate Disco, you can appreciate the incredible talent and musicianship of the BeeGees. They are legendary.

Yes. You had to be there. There was a club in Dallas. Called Oz I think. There was a futuristic movie filmed there. Dont recall the name. Also was a club in New Orleans at a hotel and the disco there had a dance floor with a rain shower around its whole perimeter. Hard to explain the feeling.

Bee Gees have taken their rightful place in History. They are brothers who started singing as children, made it big in Australia as teens, moved back to Great Britain (the place of their birth), signed on with the same company the Beetles were with. Their manager split with the company and took them with him. Became stars and young millionaires. Had some rough times but came back with an R&B style (see their song Jive Talkin among others) Moved to the US and lived in Florida. (The oldest brother, Barry, is still there). They became a huge success with their album “Saturday Night Fever.” After that, fell out of popularity and were literally kicked to the side by the media and music industry. They began writing songs for other artists: Dionne Warwick, Barbara Streisand, Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton, Diana Ross and others. The Bee Gees have had major success for 4 decades. No other band has had their longevity. They began hitting their stride again in the 1990s and early 2000’s when Maurice Gibb died unexpectedly. Most recently Barry released video of him and Michael Jackson recording in Barry’s home studio. MJ is Godfather to Barry’s son, Michael Gibb. So there is way more History about this band than the Disco era. Their music is everywhere.

Yes, more Bee Gees! JIVE TALKIN’ was their first “disco” period song, but really more R&B funk. Songs they wrote for others during that time and that Barry sometimes provided backing vocals for: *Samantha Sang EMOTION *Yvonne Elliman IF I CAN’T HAVE YOU and LOVE ME *Tavares MORE THAN A WOMAN *Andy Gibb (their baby brother) I JUST WANT TO BE YOUR EVERYTHING & SHADOW DANCING But you must react to the Bee Gees title song for Saturday Night Fever: NIGHT FEVER

Just remember, The Bee Gees is so much more than Disco. They have between them written more than 1000 songs. Not all released and not all by themselves. They have released 22 studio albums spanning from 1965 to 2001. They have made music in nearly every genre there is even classical music. The Disco periode only span over 1975 to 1979. It was clearly their most succesful period but they had their first number 1 in 1967 and the up to now last one was a cover of on of their songs in 2009. They themselves called it R&B, which many of the songs clearly are. From 1977 to 1980 they wrote 12 number ones they either released themselves or was released by others It was the following songs: How Deep Is Your Love, Night Fever, Stayin' Alive, Too Much Heaven, Tragedy and Love You Inside Out By Themselves. I Just Want To be You Everything, (Love Is) Thicker Than Water and Shadow Dancing by Their Brother Andy Gibb If I Can't Have You by Yvonne Elliman Woman In Love by Barbra Streisand Grease by Frankie Valli Barry Gibb, the last survivng brother released an album in 2016 called In The Now and it reached number 2 in the UK. He is also releasing an album in january 2021 called Greenfields. If you like you can listen to the first released song here where he sings with Country singer Jason Isbell: kzread.info/dash/bejne/eYSrktWAmNawkco.html

Never thought that the young folks today would be interested in disco..I'm happy that they are...the disco era was my absolute favorite and it was over IMO way too soon..but that's how the trends tend to go...afterwards a lot of folks put down the disco era for decades. Many good artists and songs came from the disco years!! Bee Gees were right up there. Yes, roller rink played practically all disco...so much fun...Donna Summers, Gloria Gaynor, KC & the Sunshine Band..so many too choose from...

The Bee Gees are excellent writers, musicians and performers. People who write off Disco or The Bee Gees as a Disco group don't understand the reach of their influence. Most people don't know just how many songs the Gibbs wrote for other people throughout their career or realize how long they've been around. I recommend looking through not only the songs they recorded but also the songs they wrote for others, including their younger brother Andy Gibb.♥️

Besides becoming huge in the disco age.. they are also some of the most prolific songwriters in history. They have write # 1 songs for rock, country, disco, funk bands... hell.. they wrote ISLANDS IN THE STREAM for dolly parton.

There was a lot to hate about disco, but then there were gems. As a little girl in the 70s it was cool to hear so many strong women on the radio. Bee Gees got a ton of undeserving flack for being successful songwriters who dominated the charts with their own recordings and writing for other artists.

Disco is the music of love and acceptance. The first music of real diversity. It was the first music where all were invited: Old, young, rich or poor. It was the first music to understand the LGBT community. It didn't matter your race, your creed, your sexual orientation, or your physicality. Disco embraced everyone, and for that it paid the price. In the late 70's the "Disco Sucks" crowd were overwhelming white. There angry response was to persecute disco lovers, smash disco records and ban disco from radio stations. Clearly the phrase still exists today, but it's time for all that to change.

thanks, guys - I grew up in the midwest - in the 70's - when "disco" was totally dissed - rock stations staged "rallies" where disco albums were publicly destroyed! - and never, ever thought of myself as a fan of "disco" -- but still, always loved the BeeGees - I think that besides the disco vibe, they also had a little "funk" in them -- okay, not necessarily in this song... but others of the same era - "You should be Dancin'_"Jive Talkin'" - etc. At any rate, the BGs always had that incredible vocal talent - cannot be denied! (if you have time & inclination, I would appreciate your reactions to some of their earlier songs...)

' Fanny ' is their masterpiece. A vocal performance by all the brothers that puts them on another level

You need to catch the scene in the movie where they dance to this song. You’ll want to be on the floor along side them.

That song really did go up and down on every roller skateing rink in the country! But, if you want something romantic for your lovely lady, listen to "Emotions" from the BeeGees!
