Countryside camping in Japan - a trip to Chichibu, Saitama
Camping in the countryside of Japan is simple and beautiful and in this video we share with you where and how we camped in Chichibu, Saitama. If you are traveling by tent or campervan in Japan you will definitely see some amazing countryside and will be able to take advantage of the many onsen's around the country!
We got to eat the famous kakigouri or shaved ice in Chichibu, and hiked up Hodo mountain. We spent the evenings relaxing at the Matsuri No Yu onsen, and spent our nights camping in a tent at the beautiful Hashitachikawa campsite.

It is great idea camping around city and introduce city. I got some idea when I PCS to Korea
The information is so direct and the trip is repeatable. This would help many people plan their countryside camping.

@@RoyandAimee They didn't have the onsen at Seibu-Chichibu Station, and the express train from Ikebukuro is new, but other than that it looked the same. We used to dive off the rocks into the Ara River in Nagatoro...after seeing some local kids do it...a little further upstream in Kami-Nagatoro, away from the tourists. Anyway, loved your video. @RoyandAimee

Thanks for watching! We booked over the phone (in very broken Japanese) two days before we went. It might be fine though to go without a reservation in non-peak times (during the week, non-holidays) as it was a fairly easy-going and quiet campsite. We hope you have a great time if you make it there! 😀

Thank you for watching! So glad to hear our video inspired you to go there. Unfortunately, they don’t have showers at the campsite. We went to the Seibuchichibu Ekimae onsen, next to Seibu Chichibu Station to get clean. It was a little bothersome to go there at night because the trains don’t run that often but if you have a car, it’s only a 10 minute drive away. I don’t believe they did rent camping stuff like that, sorry!

If I took a day trip do you think there's places to swim in the river without going through a camp ground ect?
@RoyandAimee
4 жыл бұрын
There were a few people swimming in the Arakawa river at Nagatoro, so I think that's definitely possible! You could also probably get off at a different stop along the Chichibu Main Line like Nogami and swim in the river there. I hope that helps!
Very cool... is Japan a camping friendly country? is there a website for camp site location and open hours ? ありがとうございます
@RoyandAimee
3 жыл бұрын
We definitely think it is! There are a lot of really great campsites all around Japan, including free sites. There's no official website for this campsite unfortunately. We put a link to an unofficial site in the video description and if you google hashitachikawa campsite you can see the phone number.
how do you go from chichibu to nagatoro also from nagatoro to river and the mountain
@RoyandAimee
11 ай бұрын
You can catch the train from Ohanabatake Station in Chichibu to Nagatoro Station - it takes about 25 mins. The river is a pretty short walk from Nagatoro Station and the start of the trail up the mountain or the ropeway is about a 15 min walk from Nagatoro Station. Hope that helps 😊
Good 👍

It was a great video. Do you mind telling us the name of the camping ground and website to check the contact info? Also, did you bring your own tent or you just rented it?
@RoyandAimee
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ted, thanks for watching! It's a very small campsite operated by an older Japanese lady - so the campground doesn't actually have a website. If you Google 'Hashitachikawa Camping Ground' it will be the first result and it has a mobile number to contact. You can call that number to create a booking - Although the lady doesn't speak any english so the conversation will have to be entirely in Japanese. We took our own tent because I don't believe they have tents there available for hire :)

Hi, thanks for stopping by! We've actually never rented camping gear in Okutama before so we can't give you any first-hand information but it seems that some of the campgrounds in the area rent gear (chairs, BBQ etc., not sure about tents though). It may be best to take a look at the website of some of the campsites in the area 😊
Any fees for camping there? If yes, how much do it cost?
@RoyandAimee
3 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for watching! From memory, it’s ¥600 per tent, per night.
Do we need to reserve a spot for camping?
@RoyandAimee
11 ай бұрын
We phoned up and reserved a spot both times we went camping there but it seemed pretty informal. Plus there were vacant spots both times we were there so you'd probably be fine to just show up on the day as long as it's not a busy holiday period.

First of all, please forgive my poor English. Your video is great. I haven't seen all of them yet, but it's a lot of fun. I enjoy camping with my friends as a break from work. It would be great if you could camp together when you come to Niigata. The summer in Niigata is short, but there is a beautiful sea. In winter, it snows and Niigata becomes white. There is delicious rice in Niigata. I think vegetables and fruits are also delicious. Oh, there may be no fruits in winter.
