More ironically: apparently the Spanish found platinum in many colonies, especially Colombia, which is even more valuable and useful than silver because it has so many uses in science and technology. But they considered it to be 'fake silver' and threw huge amounts of it into the ocean, inadvertently leaving billions in valuable metal somewhere in the Atlantic...

A more accurate translattion would be "Nothing here" and also, I think it would make far more sense if they said "Não há aqui nada" which leads me to believe the theory is wrong. But I also thing that is quite the possibility because Portuga lowned Greenland for quite a while and I anyone with eyes can see how close Canada and Greenland are to each other.

Fields are usually flat and there is not many mountains in the central Europe so local tribes were often called either people of the forest, field, or hills, since they were building forts, towns and villages in/on those places. Baltic tribes on the other hand were either called something with „water” since they used to build houses and villages near bodies of water, or literally build houses on wide platforms supporters by long wooden pillar legs in the bodies of water. Suprisingly, Baltic comes from Bhel, what means white, so in rought translatipn Baltic people/tribes can be called „white people” No idea where the name comes from tho. It was either religious, climatic, or someone just thought it was a cool idea to name their tribe „the white tribe”, just like the scandinavians thought Rus , „the people who row”, was a cool name for a band of pirates turned into a clan.

@@M1551NGN0 Actually, there are no volcanoes in Brazil, only mountains and islands that were formed by them thousands/millions years ago! Though Brazil once had intense volcanic activity, mainly 200 years ago in the South, Southeast and center-west regions (the rocks formed in this period were full of Iron, and that's why these regions have what we call "Terra roxa" or purple dirt, in English. It is actually red. Why we call it purple when it's red is an interesting topic to research if you're willing). Also, Brazil is not a part of the Pacific's ring of fire, our last active volcano stoped around 250 thousand year ago, yet out first is also said to be the first we can find in the entire world, it dates to 1.9 billion years ago and is located in the Amazon rainforest. I was gonna go into details how we had a river Sindhu, and when Persians came they couldn’t pronounce is right so they named everyone living on the south-east of the river as Hindu and the country became Hindustan ‘land of Hindu’s’. The origin story for Canada's name is pretty well recorded and known. It's almost certainly the word Kanata and it definitely dates back to Cartier's voyages. Canada is just Kanata written using French spelling conventions and with a misunderstanding over whether the last consonant was voiced or not (i.e. did the larynx vibrate or not - the tongue placement for T and D are identical... if you just expel air, it's a T but if you buzz your vocal folds, it becomes a D -- very easy to mistake for one another while listening to a language you are not familiar with). Heck, the original word (Kanata) is actually the name of the western portion of the capital city of Canada (it used to be a nearby city until it was merged into Ottawa a bit over 20 years ago).

But, many scholars dispute over the accuracy of the country name Ophir. It's a place in the Bible where King Solomon got woods, gold, and other riches from and their support to the claim are the endemic flora and fauna characteristics mentioned by Solomon.

My home country’s name translates to “Middle Country” in Mandarin (中国 / Zhōngguó, pronounced “Jong-gwo”) It got its English name from Persian (چین, Chin) which came from the Qin dynasty after it was borrowed and adapted by a bunch of different languages (mainly Latin, Greek and Portuguese) to become China

Well I'm not sure if only sometimes. I heard less nippon than nihon, and so their language name is "nihongo". So i think more common is nihon than nippon.

I'm also not Japanese but I am studying there and whenever they teach me, they use name "Nihon". And well whenever I use any japanese web side there also is "Nihon". @@shunoinori At least there "east" can be considered the "east" of the island. But yeah, we have, if all that is said is true, some great name selection. Like "Cá Nada" that literally means "Here there's nothing" to the country that we now call Canada. One of our "arquipélago" (group of islands) is called Azores because of the bird Açor (Portuguese name, I don't know the name in English). Fun fact, Azores doesn't have that species of bird and it was badly named. But the name stuck

I've also heard that Portugal derivated from "Porto do graal" (Port of the Grial) because apparently the Holy Grail was hidden there. But it's worth mentioning that the show where I heard this was on a channel that has that weird ass alien program so that iteration might be made up for the sake of the show.

You should look at the Spanish rabbits , you just have to walk for 3 minutes . And you will find a few rabbits , literally from my town I walk 5 minutes and I can see 9 rabbits. In 1700's the Charles the Third ( Carlos III ) was called the hunter king , he went hunting to hunt... rabbits , many rabbits.6 or 7 times a week .

Also, those 5 rabbits is one of the reasons why such harsh laws about taking animals to Australia are in place. Or so was I told by an Aussie visiting Kraków some years ago. He might have been joking about some thing that he was telling.

Wouldn’t it make more sense to have an army of Kangaroos instead of emus? Because much like rabbits, kangaroos also hop around. Kangaroos would probably still outnumber the rabbits because there are lots of videos of Roos boxing each other and they’re pretty tough.

For more, Jacque Cartier misunderstood when he was told the route to “Kanata”, which simply means Village in Huron-Iroquois. Because of this he just referred to the entire region as Canada

Fun fact: Australia is a name thief. The name is based off of Terra Australis, the great southern landmass of equal size to the northern hemisphere that Europeans believed existed for centuries. Unable to find this great southern landmass with the technology of the time, they gave the name to the southern most new continent Australia. Antarctica would be discovered a few decades later but since Australia was taken, it was named Antarctica which literally translates to opposite of the Arctic
