Could You Compare/Contrast the Lamy 2000 And The Pilot Custom Heritage 92? - Q&A Slices
www.GouletPens.com
I've been trying to decide between purchasing a Lamy 2000 and a Pilot Custom Heritage 92, and I was wondering if you could compare/contrast them. Note that the cost is not an issue.
Lamy 2000:
durable material
Bauhaus industrial design
hooded nib keeps nib wet longer
snap cap, super convenient
less expensive
pretty finicky sweet spot, takes some getting used to
Pilot Custom Heritage 92:
demonstrator
really clean look
nib is fantastic, same as Custom 74 (my fav)
in the end, it’ll be preference I think which determines which you like better
if money is no object, get both and you won’t regret it :)

Thanks for watching them! - Colin
Both are great pens. Which one do I use most often? The PCH 92. Great nib as with all Pilots, plus I like demonstrators. Thanks for the comparison.
As much as I appreciate the durability of the material and the ergonomics of the Lamy 2000, nib-wise I prefer the CH92. I find Lamy nibs too wet, even the extra fine ones, and too smooth. Yes, no kidding, I don't like nibs soooo smooth. I prefer them to have some feedback for more precise control of what I am writing. With a very smooth nib, my handwriting gets almost illegible.
So when are you going to start selling Goulet T's? (Or you could give some away!)
The cap on my ch92 cracked within 3 days
Hi Brian, Thank you for helping me work my way into the world of fountain pens. I have been obsessed with pens since I started trading them in elementary school. Unlike most of my friends, my love for pens has not waned. As a young physician growing up in an age of electronic medical records, I still find myself writing a substantial amount. Most particularly, everything seems to require my signature. My first foray into nicer pens, beyond the lame safari, was a lamy 2000 extra fine. While I loved the pen, I found it's broad lines bulky for trying to cram a lot of information into a small space. This led me to purchasing a pilot custom 92 fine nib. While this pen was more amenable to every day writing, my signature, which includes quick lateral strokes, tends to skip a lot as it does on my lady safari on the lateral bits. My question is, as I finally come around to it, are there any pens that write smoothly with a fine(r) nib, while still maintaining the ability to support quick lateral movement? Thank you in advance. Best, Ray

Pilot definitely does well with fine & smooth nibs. One trick I've learned is to twist the piston down a bit to saturate the feed before signatures that require the super quick writing. Definitely check out some reviews on Stephen Brown's channel as he usually does a writing sample that involves quick writing. Could be helpful! - Colin

Just my 2 cents: Japanese nibs 'fit half a size down' in sneaker terms 😅 the F is basically a European/US EF. Try the MF or even M. Also, my guess is it's designed for Pilot inks, which in my experience are on the wet side. I find that some Noodler's inks also work great with it. Lexington Grey for instance is brilliant in the CH92, but feathers too much on most papers in a Sailor Pro Gear for example, which is wetter.
