Chris Hedges gave an accurate explanation for the invasion of Ukraine by putting it in the historical context and then that other gentleman (and I use that term advisedly) tried to argue for his perspective by taking the initiation of the conflict back out of the context into which Chris had just placed it. An obvious example of partisanship, he characterized the explanation as being pro-Putin, and anti American, when in fact, it was merely a rehearsal of historical facts that didn’t excuse Putin’s decision to invade, but rather explained it and at the same time condemned it as a horrific waste of human life. He made it clear that this conflict could have been avoided altogether but for the hegemonic designs of the imperialist war-based economic regime in the United States.

Scott is condemning Hamas and saying that they killed civilians, but it's been proven that the idf killed many of its own people as part of the hanibal directive. Also, there are no israeli civilians, all israelis above age 18 are in the idf, and the kubutz's are well armed and militaristic. All israelis have guns, there are no israeli civilians. Just as Chris Hedges says, I see a Clueless Whitehouse struggling with early dementia stumbling over each other, trying to keep up with the day-to-day shifting sand's direction of the wind. As for Scott Lucas, I wonder if we share the same planet.

I want to hear more of this argument between Chris and Scott. On the whole, Chris is right, unchecked U.S. imperialism is at the heart of a lot of the global disorder we're seeing today. On the other hand, there should be a lot of pushback on Chris's assessment of Russia/Ukraine. He sees it through a lens that, though not entirely inaccurate, really misleads on the cause of Russia's invasion.

You could say the same the other way around , Europe and US have lot of patience with Russia …. Russia could have simply stay in Russia and not invade and both countries Russia and Ukraine would do much better now , no one was threatened to attack Russia , no one had the attention to attack Russia. I would have liked to have seen an entire episode about the potential nuance in the difference of opinions between the two speakers at the very end, i personally think both Chris and the other guy needed at least another 20 minutes each to convey the complex intricacies of their particular points of view, and despite there being an obvious difference of opinions I dont think leaving it where it was left was truly conducive to the overall intention of the discussion.

It is debatable whether the United States has an appetite to intervene in Europe where all the countries are on broadly the same page and want the US there. In the eternal cluster that is the Middle East? Not after the last round. Your Common Denominator is obvious. Israel, Palestine, Iran, Russia and Saudi Arabia know there is no world in which the United States meaningfully entangles themselves, so they have a free hand. It will get much worse. Nobody there is likely to enjoy US strategic retreat, any more than they enjoyed US engagement with the region. But what is new?

The problem with Scott's idea is that he doesn't understand what the history was, the historical reference is, nor does he comprehend the provocations and how they became problematic right now.

The argument between Chris and Scott in the end is spot on!!!

If the West Asian conflicts were anything regional, you would see a Palestinian, an Israeli, an Iranian, an Iraqi, or a Saudi debating. So the format quite answers the questions. With due respect to all the guests, the fact they feel like they can comment on the issue is because they define their roles as either escalating or de-escalating elements in the conflicts, e.g. Here Scott is representing the still ambitious and aggressive once hegemon (as a powerful fraction of ruling elites, not everything West) that tends to constantly evade their role. To understand people like Scott better, you can ask them about not genuine regional conflicts, but major man-made disasters like the genocide in Rwanda; Such experts have no expertise in what they define as "not their interest zones". Not only his cause is not humanitarian, but also he literally questions cause and effect relationships. He simply admits to the past mistakes so that he looks rational enough to justify the ongoing calamities, later the ongoing calamities will be admitted by him as another bridge for justifying the future mistakes. That game is already "démodé". This is while, whenever human lives are regarded as a number, no rational person absurdly brings up issues like human rights, international rules (not even laws) as a time consuming distraction, and thus a catalyst to increase "the number".
