    Before you set off for a 30 night adventure, you absolutely have to go away somewhere closer to home with all the gear, for a couple of nights at least. Even if it's a campsite 20 minutes from home. That way you can check everything is working as it should, the tent doesn't have any missing poles etc. You can get the feel of the bikes' handling with the additional weight. If you are riding every day and pitching the tent in a different place every day, you'll need a tent that's quick to set up and take down. You don't want to be doing it in the dark. Are you wild camping or using campsites? I would suggest campsites as you've not done this before. At least with a campsite you have shower and toilet facilities. Some sites have somewhere to dry wet things when the weather isn't great as well. Stay safe you lovely people x

    Hi, yes thats all very good advice. We will have a practice run soon like you say and try to discover any problems before we go on the big tour. Yes we will use proper campsites, a proper toilet and shower is essential. Our plan is to go slow and see more this time so we will alway try to finish well before dark to allow time to set up etc...

    Go for a tent that is slightly bigger than you think you need ( carrying a little extra bulk on the bike is far better than uncomfortable night ) and really do your homework to choose one that is easy to put up and take down.

    Guys an advice: I don't know what program you use to edit the videos, but add a compressor effect to the audio because there's too much difference between the different sections, from inside the helmet, when you talk outside, the music, and so on. That will keep every sound at the same level. Cheers.

    With two bikes , you've got lots of carrying capacity , Get a big tent , but not one of those with a garage , they are ridiculous . Take a tarp and poles as well for additional cover . Camp chairs make life tolerable too . Cooking gear , keep it simple , my favourite is the Swedish army Messkit , avoid the expensive gasoline burners unless you're absolutely sure you want that kind of thing . Cooking on a fire is best , so don't spend a lot on pans etc . Plates , bowls and cutlery can weigh a lot so go lightweight and use foldable bowls to save space Practice your puncture repair - tyre replacement . Take 3 tyre levers and you can use washing up liquid as a tyre lubricant , also there's a way to fit tyres using cable ties , so check that out . And a good powerful electric tyre compressor obviously . Tools, but just enough for every bolt and screw on the bike ,+ gaffer tape , hose clamps etc. I prefer soft panniers , Mosko and Kriega are expensively very good , Lomo is cheap , cheerful and easily replaced .Either/Or . [ Aluminum boxes are a no no for me after getting my leg trapped under them a couple of times .] Soft sided cooler for food and drinks , especially the drinks . The more camping you do , the easier it gets and the more you look forward to it . So go for it !

    On all my trips I mix it up ... some camping and then a few nights in a hotel ... 90% of my trips I go solo and use a 2 man tent minimum and have the extra space ... I have had £400+ tents but always return to my trusty Eurohike Tamer 2, its pitches as one, loads of space and it was £40 (think now around £60?) ... but when my missus came the odd time we used a 3 person as the bike can take the weight and size no issue. But with you both riding then you can go large and just split the weight ... one has the main tent, one has the poles and pegs etc you will appreciate the space and then when it gets a bit like too much hard work then an hotel, too hot or too wet for camping etc .... What I have learnt is this, unless I am 100% going to do any wild camping then I dont haul the stove, cooking stuff, pans etc etc ... just the tent, mat and sleeping bag, dont even do a pillow as I just fold up my jeans and jacket and place my Airhawk seat cushion, comfy as owt! 😉

Or we did do some glamping at the bikers camp in Wales which was good.. Anyway, tent wise, try the tents first.. See the displays.. We used to need at least a 4 berth. Need storage and slightly more room in case of bad weather and you are stuck in your tent.. Buy a double skinned tent, and able to take constant rain.. (not all tents are the same I promise you..). Ideally I would have liked the Lone Rider Moto tent but decided on a cheaper Vango Beta 550 to start with, that I picked up from John Lewis for £175. It’s probably a bit big really but sits ok on the back of my Tiger 1200. And I can stand up in it which is a must for me. If you're going to a formal camp site with showers, etc, I found them to be not that much cheaper than a cheap hotel/b&b, so the maths in going camping saving money is significantly different when taking that and the cost of EVERYTHING (including all your previous "test" equipment) you've bought to go camping. Give me a small room with a shared bathroom down the hallway compared to camping any day! What IS very handy and will save money is taking some cooking gear. All said and done, I wish you well. I’m with you Richard, a few nights in a tent then a hotel. If you go somewhere sunny I find a tent is fine but if it rains it makes you want to slash your wrists. I agree with the bigger tent. I started with something the size of a coffin but soon traded up. The accepted advice is always get a tent one more berth than you need. I’ve seen some excellent reviews of the ‘Wingman of the Road’ single berth which includes mattress and sleeping bag. They also do a two berth version which maybe worth looking at but I suspect will be too small. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with

    One tip that's a must do, pitch whatever tent you get in your garden or anyone that will let you, just to get used to how it goes up, use a sprinkler over it to make sure it's waterproof and you know how to do the guy lines, poles, it won't be as difficult when you do it for real on your tour. Also, tents always seem a lot bigger when trying to pack them away again after the 1st unpacking. In fact, test all of your new gear, from cooking equipment to making sure your sleeping arrangements won't deflate during the night. I'm looking forward to watching your tour. Definitely do an overnighter, somewhere close to home, say Bude or Boscastle or maybe North Devon. You HAVE to try your kit out before you go and with enough time between try out and trip to change things if needed. Sleep systems are the hardest things to get right as it's very hard to advise. Bit of a haul but it might be worth a ride up to Attwooll's near Gloucester as they have a massive display area / showroom. They are not super cheap but you can at least see what you are thinking of buying. The cafe there serves some excellent cake too.

    Hi guys love watching your adventures, we have also had many fantastic motorcycle travel adventures over the years. But a must on the motorcycle bucket list is to tour northern Sweden and Norway. We moved form Cornwall and now own a B&B in Swedish Lapland, which you would be more than welcome to stop overnight. Not unless you enjoy putting your tent up and down every night. Roads are amazing and very little traffic, stunning landscape. You are also allowed to stop and set up your tent almost anywhere. Just an idea and always good to plan and explore other places. Ride safe and looking forward to your next adventure, :-)

    We've got the same tyre levers and put them to the test this weekend swapping the tyres on mine (rather than using the more workshop type). They do work but it's worth carrying a small bottle of shampoo to lubricate the bead, both for refitting the tyre and for breaking the bead. On our tigers the fronts easy as it doesn't have the safety bead but the rear has a tubeless profile so was a pain to break hence the need for some lubricant. Previously we've used a small tent which easily fits in one pannier but due to headroom issues have gone for a larger one this year that will go across the pillion seat. For me an advantage is that it will also act as a back rest. We'll probably also take the small one just for ease of pitching and as there's 2 of us space isn't an issue. Bed wise there's a lot to be said for the oex cot beds, more comfy in my opinion than the self inflating tyes and neither big or heavy when packed away.

I still carry the tent just in case 🤷🏻 but my last 3 trips I haven't used it 🤔. If you don't want to spend between 1500 and £1700 per bike getting proper tubeless wheels, you'd be better off learning to change a tube, but that's not fun when it's dark and wet beside the road. You'll need to practice at home. Its easy enough once you've got the technique right and practiced. Basically you've got the wrong bikes for foreign travel. Sorry.

    @@ontheroadadventureBreaking the bead is only part of the job. The bead breaker will add to the clutter and weight that you carry, and will very rarely get used. I suggest using the centre stand on the second bike to break the bead. It's also possible to use the bike that has the punctur, but it's more awkward. Also, bear in mind that you need to carry additional clobber with you: a decent set of tyre levers (I recommend the original Buzzetti ones, but they're not small or light); some lube for the tyre; a spare tube - a 19" will do for both at a pinch :); and a means of inflating the tyre afterwards. And some spare clothes incase you end out doing the work in 30-odd degrees. Don't worry about the thick tube that they fitted in Italy, but if you are concerned about it being balanced properly, just remove the wheel and balance it.

    Hi Roland, an adventure is never a mistake! I wonder, what precautions do you take when camping in Australia against snakes and other nasties getting to you in the tent when camping?

  • @rolandstaines3249

    @rolandstaines3249

    2 ай бұрын

    Hi well I tell them to go away normally works :) secondly never open the tent at night . You never know what out there because every thing wants to eat you :) :) . Snakes well one won't go looking for them that's for sure . But the biggest thing to watch out for is them big hopping things to get off the roads before roo time . This trip will be on utube hopefully. On my Assie frends channel roads I'v ridden . He's says in 5 parts if it goes to plan . This will be my 5th trip to Australia & have covered a few thousand miles now on my adventure in mostly Queensland. A 500 mile ride would be like a normal days ride out as you can just eat up the miles so easily & get enough protein from the bugs in your face . :( :) :) England fits in Australia 39 times & Oueensland 9 times . Lifes adventure one life live it everyday. Rolley :)

    Where on earth are you going?🙂 From the tents I’ve got and have seen the inner is usually sealed to keep the bugs out but the groundsheet isn’t sewn in. That will give you better ventilation to stop condensation. There can be pitching benefits too eg if it’s raining putting the outer up first or taking the inner out first, packing separately to keep things dry. One more tip split the tent when packing distribute a bit of weight and pack in dry bags. Enjoy the outdoors! 🙂

    Rich get that MX tube out of your wheel and replace it with a road tube asap mate for your own safety, MX tubes and heavy duty off road tubes generate too much heat in road bikes and can easily fail at speed without warning and we all know what happens then don't we 🥴 . .

    Why go for 30 nights from the off , Why not just do a 4/5 nights and see how you get on with your new kit and new tent and sleeping bags, it seems a bit much 30 nights tbh, definitely go for a bigger tent if possible because if you don't you will regret it when you're stuck in a small tent and no space for you and your kit, I would of thought with there being 2 of you you would have enough carrying capacity for a decent amount of kit, looking forward to seeing how you get on, definitely think a practice run on the changing a tube before you go is a good idea mate .
