Could this be the BEST cycling climb in Pune? | Indian Inclines

Спорт

Off the Kahdakwasla backwaters route, is this undiscovered climb to the Jarsheshwar temple. With a length of 6km, a not-too-hard 6% gradient, stunning views, and great roads, this is arguably the best climb in Pune. According to Strava, at the time of this recording, this climb has been completed by only 20 people.
The Jarsheshwar temple is atop a hill, with access through a private road - getting permission to ride up from the guard post at the foot of the climb, or at Splendour Country, shouldn't be a problem. You can find this road at just around 900m from the Mandvi village, along the backwaters. There are some dirt trails to be enjoyed as well, though this video does not cover them.

I rode up on a Saturday and there was nobody there, other than construction workers. Only cyclists are likely to see this video, and I think the type of cyclist who makes it to the top, is one who will respect the location - this isn't Chandani Chowk after all. I think the guards indicated that there were being more strict about whom they allow up too (unsure if this is a recent change). All things considered, I don't believe in keeping great routes to myself! Nevertheless, thank you for your comment, and I hope things are better now.

@@TheIndianCyclist Yup, i did go. It rained throughout. But it was so blissful. Amazing route though. After jarsheswar, instead of going back on the same route, i went to Hinjewadi via mutha and pirangut.

Must have been lovely for sure - the Khadakwasla backwaters are one of the best places to experience the monsoons, once had a puncture there and walked for 5 km without caring! Kudos for getting out of the house on a day like that! BTW, Giant does this route (Pirangut-Mutha-Khadakwasla - aka Khadakwasla Parikrama) as a night ride a couple of times a year. Surreal experience!

@@TheIndianCyclist Haha even i had a puncture. After turning right from warje flyover. Luckily had a puncture shop open that early. But yea the ride was amazing. I loved the route especially after jarsheswar towards pirangut via muthua. Single road with lush green pastures on both sides. But the climb to pirangut was tiring especially that late into my ride haha.

It's a lovely climb to be sure - but no match for Tilari Ghat in terms of difficulty. These days they keep shutting down access to cyclists for various reasons, if you can ride it, you definitely should!

It is a private road, but I don't think you'll have trouble getting permission to go up - you may need to ask at Splendour country a bit ahead if the guard asks you to do that. Apparently there are some trails coming down (and thus going up ...) but have not yet explored those. There isn't another tarred road up AFAIK.

The Indian Cyclist thanks for the reply. I and a friend on two motorcycles tried to get the permission but weren't granted since I had a camera bag with me. The guard at splendour country told that they do not allow cameras and hence didn't grant us the permission else they were OK to allow us if we didn't take the cameras along.

That's interesting - I had my action camera in full view when I asked for permission, but I admit that was what I was most concerned about as well. I think they told me I could take pictures of the temple but not of the properties going up, it's been so long ago, that I can't remember if that was a conversation I had elsewhere!
