Around 3:39 you can see the doubling really well. Strike doubling is characterized by the shelf-like plateau of the metal. Here, you can see that the doubling is flat. In double die coins, the doubling would exhibit the same curvature that the regular relief has here.

I would say that's machine doubled. Does anyone else agree with me? Sweet coin, the quality is just amazing. Not the rare DDO, but still a very nice addition to any collection.

Any update? As far as sending in to get it appraised? Every cent I look at I automatically assume that it's a dryer coin, mechanical doubling, or PMD. But at the same time I am extremely hesitant to spend any of my coins.

Your eight year old video came up on my phone. That was interesting. The 1969s is probably more valuable than ever if doubled died. I have a couple with small errors on it, including date, but not likely to get me much money for it.

To me the history of this year alone will blow your mind

Unfortunatly this is not the 1969-s doubled die. This is mechanical doubling or strike doubling, which ever you want to call it. very common on all lincoln cents. its caused when there is a shift in the minting process. keep looking though!!!

no this is mechanical doubling. very common. even on the date. you can tell by the shelf like appearance of the doubling. a true doubled die, the doubling is raised like the rest of the design elements, and you will find split serifs.

I have a 1969-s just like yours, but no doubling on the lettering - however if you look at the 1969 and the 's' you can see a double edge to the year... you have the same as mine. I consider it a abnormality, but not a double strike per se... Nice coin good condition! I want to know if that is an oddity (the date being weird..)

It is machine doubling and not a doubled die. This is caused by die wear and does not in most cases ad value to a coin except in rare cases. A high grade red MS cent say MS66 would be a 50-90 dollar cent to the right person but those at that level are fairly rare also as some people clean their coins which destroys the value.

HOWEVER, NO mint mark signifies it was minted in Philadelphia :) I forget the exact date but they started putting the P in for Philly to clarify this in the 80's (maybe a little earlier?) You asked about the S it is not a cud as that happens on the rim of coins what is going on with the S is a small die crack/chip that has happened to the die because it is starting to get worn out . Hope that helps you out.

Jack Jackson Actually any penny made before 1982 is probably worth more than face value if melted. I don't think it's legal to do so, but last I checked the copper content was worth well over a penny which is why they started making them copper plated in mid-82 mint production. A powerful magnet will help you select which ones to spend and which ones to keep as the plated ones are magnetic and copper is not.

Hi guys & galls out there. Could someone please explain the differences in American one cent coins? Such things as Double die/ profiles, Denver and anything else you can think of! I Googled it but that was a complete waste of time! I have hundreds of them but don't know what to look out for.

This looks to me like a mechanical doubling. The next time you are at your favorite coin dealer have them look at it they will give you a free professional opinion. The next option is to send it to a grading company, but that will cost you about 20 dollars to have it professionally slapped in graded and more than the coin is worth.

These must be graded and and encapsulated by PGCS. They are the most respected and recognized numismatic appraisers in the field. If they judge the coins to be true double-dies and of high quality, you may be looking at some serious money. Just go to their website and follow the instructions. Good luck...

Manny Palese It's not a Doubled Die at all. It's MD. MD does not carry any extra value. Worthless doubling. Summit in this coin to a grading company would just be a waste of time and money. There's so money of these in high grades.
