I would argue that one and done has destroyed the men’s game.

Now that men and women get paid in college, the men should go back to match the full four years in the women’s game. I’m old enough to remember when the men stayed in college for at least three years. This is is how we became fans of such great teams! ❤❤❤

The Lopez game was South Carolina. FYI, the strategy of holding, grabbing, obstructing on every cut, etc...to disrupt the motion offense has been a strategy since Stewie left. The Miss State Final 4 the following year was Miss State playing football more than bball. Schaeffer blatantly said afterwards that was his strategy & hope the refs would let them do it to an extent b/c UConn was the more skilled team This tactic has flourished despite the NCAA supposed freedom of movement emphasis. More teams are playing the foul as much as possible & the refs are too lazy or poor to call but 1/10 th of it.

I think it would remove some of the great games and rivalries in Women's NCAA Basketball. The One ans Done is why you don't know who is playing where for the men.

One and done has definitely hurt the mens game. There are a multitude of potentially great teams that never happened b/c 2 or 3 players left after 1 year or sophomore year. It's not only hurt the game overall. but hurt programs, KY isn't what it used to be b/c they became the 1 & done school. Also, there is the fact many players aren't ready for pros, though they might be great in college. The NBA started the G-League for that reason to develop some of these players or even players that go 4 years that aren't ready to necessarily contribute. They would be sitting on the bench getting little playing time, now they can develop in the G-League. The WNBA doesn't have a development league, they only have 12 teams now for a reason, their finances. The WNBA has the age rule for several reasons, there aren't that many teams, thus roster spots. Every year people drafted 1st or 2nd round don't make rosters. Also, leagues don't want to really deal with 18 yr old kids, that aren't ready life skills wise to be pros, forget the potential issues on the court. NFL makes you have to play college 3 years for a reason.

@Listen Up: If you can, please clarify. News articles (NYT) have appeared that state the NCAA is considering the termination of the ‘one-and-done’ provision. Yet, there is this other conversation that indicates the NCAA is considering instating the provision in WBB. Can you clarify? In the meantime, may I say, whatever decision is made, it should be made on the basis of what is best for the student athlete and the sport. The one-and-done in MBB benefits only a select few players. Further, the NCAA has a terrible decision making track record. Revenue should have nothing to do with the decision.

I do not think if they allowed women basketball players to leave college and go into the WNBA early it would make as much difference as it does in men's basketball, for several reasons. The main reason is because the WNBA does not pay as much as the NBA, as they mentioned in this video, and players can now make money playing in college. I read that Caitlin Clark's net worth is $3.4 million. Since college athletes do not make a salary, this comes from Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals. Caitlin Clark is set to make $78,000 salary as the WNBA's number 1 overall pick. I think this is one of the reasons that Paige decided to stay at UConn next year, even though she could go into the WNBA. Another reason is that there are only 12 WNBA teams (there are 30 NBA teams). I read that the WNBA plans on having 16 teams by 2028, but that is still less teams than the NBA.

To be honest, I'm not sure if this would be a good or bad idea, as it has pros and cons on each end. It would be an okay rule for someone that commits to a college and they don't get much playing time to use the portal to go somewhere else where to get playing time. In other words, if that first year doesn't live up to their expectations the first year they can go somewhere else. But I am not so sure about a player that plays for four different teams in four years. EDIT: My mistake was thinking it was using the portal four times. I see now it is about one year of college and going pro. If they are that good, I would be okay with it, but I think that the issue will be that there aren't enough WNBA teams to support this. Also the risk of one year in college and going pro and then they don't make the WNBA team...now what!

The fans bring in the money!!! UCONN basketballs games are routinely sold out. People in our State buy jackets, bumper stickers, caps, jerseys, etc. Our teams are always sooo grateful for our support. It's a love fest! It's healthy and wonderful. We love our players! Leave well enough alone! PLEEZZE!

It would be awful, awful! When the new players come in me and so many others choose our favs. Right from the start my favs have been Aubrey Griffin and Aaliya Edwards. And, I was their fan for 4 years! And I and many other CT fans cry on Senior night! We dread it! Geno is right. We need our players to stay, and hopefully because it's UCONN they'll stay. Having this kind of disruption in players coming and going is going to lose FAITHFUL like me and thousands of others. The men's game is the same for all of us. We have our favs there too!!!

@@grobble8954 Those two leaving UCONN actually did UCONN a favor. Amari was useless. The game moves to fast for her. She has to think what is happening before she reacts. Check her stats. As for Popeye. Three teams in four years ? UCONN went overboard with her. They gave her every chance to succeed. Arkansas was no powerhouse. I feel much of her problem is Psychological. She spoke about wanting to attend a 'partying' school. Plus the fact that her mother had a BIG mouth and bad mouthed Geno and UCONN basically calling UCONN a crap school. Which is far from the truth considering their research programs. They each did UCONN a favor by transferring.

The 4 year players become stars and even college Legends.. Household names. Teams with experience become great teams. College players improve every year. I enjoy the women's game because it's not all dunks and hero ball. All 10 players are moving sometimes and it's awesome. The WNBA isn't big money. So the college game is where it's at. Way more popular. The players mature before they get to the Pro's

I also think that “one & done” robs men of #1 not having enough time to perfect their game & #2, if their pro career is cut short via injury or lack of talent, they have won’t have a college degree to get a better non-basketball job.

I don't think one and done is the biggest threat on the horizon for women's basketball / sports. It's not much different than the portal, just the player is more likely to disappear off the radar if they go pro.. not the audience nor exposure. Maybe if the W survives and grows to pay bigger bucks then there would be a bigger question as to incentives and injury risk. However this all assumes women's sports remains a protected league, which is in serious doubt to anyone paying attention.

No question this would have an impact. But it does discriminate that male players can do it and females can't. And if women's pro basketball continues to rise with players like Clark, better money down the road could be a draw.

If it happens just another nail in the coffin of college sports to go with NIL and portal. Problem with Women's BB is where are they going to go? W can only accommodate so many with 12 teams, 13 next year, meaning very good players will end up in Europe. All could have been avoided with a stipend added to a free education.

I and so many others have been advocating for Work Study pay for College sports players for decades! It's a part-time and sometimes a full-time job and promotes the college/university as well. Because the colleges/universities did NOT do this, we now have some players on college teams becoming millionaires while their team mates make nothing - they get to HELP their team mates become great players and to become millionaires. That's what not paying the players all these years has produced. Corruption!

One and done will never work in WBB, it will ruin it for the schools and the fans and with the portal, it's not helping schools to stay competitive. Look at Oregon State - 8 players are looking to transfer. Basically getting a new team of players now.

The way I see it, one and done is not feasible with the current framework of the WNBA. There is already a premium for roster spots as it is. If kids think they are going to leave early for the pros, the WNBA is going to be forced to expand in a big way. Otherwise there are going to be a lot of disappointed players out there playing in leagues no one has heard of. Peace.

One and done will just not work in the women's game. Isn't education the primary priority of a student athlete? Not all women who play basketball for a living will have a Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi playing career. Morgan Tuck retired from the WNBA as soon as she won a title with Seattle during the bubble championship because of her "granny knees." Now she holds a position with the Connecticut Sun. One more thing, most one and done athletes in the NBA showed they lacked a certain skillset which could have been improved with more seasoning in college. I am excluding those who were generational talents like Kobe, Garnett and LJ. Women would benefit more from their college playing experience if they stayed longer to hone their skills.

@@TheDisruptiveOne Geno had nothing to do with her leaving. She came mid year, was given sparce time as expected when you're coming in 1/2 thru the season with a full roster. She shot & played poorly. The next off season she went to camp. started fall semester & then bailed. She wanted to go to a party school & was by her own statements & her family she was concerned about other stuff..ie...social stuff, , etc... Things other than bball. A mediocre party school SEC education at Arkansas(#178 ranking), was her cup of tea. She could walk into starting on a mediocre team & keep playing no matter how poorly she shot the ball. She didn't think she was good enough to earn playing time at UConn in her actual freshmen year. She again is bailing looking for another supposed greener pasture. People that keep transferring it's not the programs, it's them that is the issue.
