Couching with BERNINA

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Gayle from BERNINA of Naperville shows you how to couch using a variety of methods. Couching is a technique where thread of various thickesses is sewn down to the fabric rather than through a needle, similar to applique. Styles demonstrated:
-Skinny Thread with the #6 Embroidery Foot
-3 Strands of thin cord with the #22 Couching Foot
-5 Strands of Superior Thread's Razzle Dazze with the #25 Couching Foot
-Grocery Store Twine with the #12C Bulky Overlock foot
-Free-motion couching with the #43 Free Motion Couching Foot
-Couching in the Embroidery Machine
Full demonstration is performed on a BERNINA 770 Quilter's Edition Machine.

Yes, the machine is threaded with embroidery thread in the top and bobbin thread in the bottom. But with this technique you may want the same thread in top and bottom if you are quilting with this method.

Gayle you do a great job of promoting Bernina machines and your videos are very informative. I don't own a Bernina or have ever sewed on one and I still watch you. I was in the market to buy one but a lot of people say the expenses of fixing one is very high. I imagine that the 475QE or the B535 machines are pretty reliable. I am looking at both of these and finding that they come with very few feet. BOTH are well over $3,000 dollars. Can you give me some insight please>

First of all, thank you for watching. And I’m sorry your are getting information that the repair of BERNINAs are expensive. Most stores, like mine, offer a first year cleaning, repairs and adjustments free for the first 1-2 years. We bill very little for any BERNINAs younger than 10 years old. BERNINAs have a 20 year warranty on mechanical parts, 5 year on electronic. There is truth that some older (antique models like the 1530, 930, legacy machines) can be pricy to repair. This is because they are long passed their warranty and parts are hard to come by. But I ask you, how many appliances that are 40 years old do you expect to repair? I really like the 480 and 570, because I must have wide stitching capability but the B 535 has the better bernina foot control and has more opportunity to expand its capabilities.

We need you to be more specific because we do not understand what you mean by fancy foot petals. Do you mean foot control? If so the BERNINA favorit is a model that is over 40 years old and the technology is not compatible with the heel up/down feature with that mechanical model.
