Cotton Fields (1969) - CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL (CCR) - Lyrics
Chorus1:
When I was a little bitty baby
My mama would rock me in the cradle,
In them old cotton fields back home;
Chorus2:
It was down in Louisiana,
Just about a mile from Texarkana,
In them old cotton fields back home.
Chorus3:
Oh, when them cotton bolls get rotten
You can't pick very much cotton,
In them old cotton fields back home.

Actually, it was written 82 years ago by Huddie Ledbetter, better known as Lead Belly. There are many covers of this song. The best known versions of Cotton Fields are that of The Beach Boys as well as that of CCR.

Anyone who Lived in the 60's and 70's would know this song was a folk FAVORITE!!!!! My sisters and I would have SO MUCH fun dancing to this when we were very small!!! While we were at my Aunt & Uncle's house in Virginia, My uncle found this song and played it. My Aunt & Uncle started dancing with my cousins and we all cheered them!!! Then my mother said, " You haven't seen anything yet"!!!! Then my mother, My Aunt Rose, My sisters Eva, Nancy, Caroline, and me got up and just ripped the patio up!!!! My girlfriend Debbie FREAKED OUT!!!! we got done and we all hugged and kissed my girlfriend Debbie!!! My mother was crying and held all of us!!! She Said, " These kids were Children when they first heard this"!!! My Aunt Rose replied, " These kids NEVER lost their touch"!!!! I told Debbie, " honey!!! Eva and I used to just have so much fun dancing to this and we taught Caroline and Nancy how to dance to this as well!!!!

Yes, it was. Also in other countries. Like Poland, where I grew up. CCR was a reason to go to the States, a reason as good as any other.
Beautifully sung and played and says true things. For most of us, our Mothers rocked us in our cradles when we were babies, to make us sleep, and it is true if the cotton balls rot, you cannot get much cotton from them. One of my favorite songs this one is really worth to listen.
They made it so easy and clean. There are many important professions in the world and musicians are one of them. Good music can save your day.

You poor soul. 😉 I first learned this song along with another Huddie William Ledbetter song Boil Weavil in 1959 in 1st grade in Kentucky. Guess I at least had a better musical education. 😁 As Brown versus the Borad of Education of Topeka Kansas had not reached Kentucky at this time, it would seem that my white school would be one that would not have been teaching songs written by a Black Man, go figure. 🤔
This just randomly popped up while listening to my local radio. I'm not a "farm" or "ranch" person. I always grew up in a city. I was born after 2000. I generally don't like country music. I'm not even american, nor have visited a place similar to the one describe in this song. And yet, somehow, this song makes me feel at home
