He is my cousin, self made, a man who was given nothing, and his dad my uncle Joe was one of coolest dudes you could ever meet. Jim is nothing but class.

I am a Costco employee for the last four years. To say I'm honored to work for Costco is an understatement. I wonder if people know how well this company treats its employees? I got the job at a time in my life when I was at the lowest point I had ever been and didn't know how I was going to survive. I'm thriving now and am so grateful. I love going into work and love telling people where I work, and I give it my all. If all corporations did what Costco did can you imagine how different life would be? Jim Sinegal is THE saint of retail, period.

This, the dude basically helped to write his own "contract", in it as the CEO he couldn't make more than $ 350,000 a year and could be fired like any other employee if he didn't do his job well. This man is a diamond in the sea of founders and CEOs. He deserves so much respect for his high business ethics.

Thanks to the b-school prof for a great interview with Mr. Jim Sinegal making this fun and insightful to watch at the same time! Special thanks to Jim for this "Masterclass" of insights that help students and viewers online like me to understand how you (and Costco) think! 10:39 Why create Kirkland Signature brand? (Fun fact: One brand name, clear with all countries so less legal work iif they would have gone with different brand names for different products.) 13:46 Preferences in selling Kirkland Signature and national brands? 15:17 re membership model 16:26 International expansion 17:00 How hard is it to start in Canada from Seattle? Well, Canada has TWO official languages (English & French)... 18:00 Japan ... 18:25 In all countries, and most particularly in Asia and Mexico ... 19:40 China ... 20:08 Jim's answer re China 21:39 Do you hire local? (HQ team 4-5 years to build up a country team(?bad audio)) 22:15 ... China ... ? 22:40 ... China ... LG ... 23:16 trade wars 24:08 e-commerce 24:28 e-comerce amounts to 4% of total net sale 24:54 Jim talked about Costco started in e-commerce in 1998 (K's comment: like it was a badge of honour but, to be frank, some others may see this as a sign of failure. But still, $10billion out of $150b is not small.) 26:21 Products ... (Constantly changing. The "Treasure Hunt" items. About 1,000) 28:37 Branded product like Bose ... 30:08 Any products that you would never sell? 31:25 Costco's happy employees ... (turnover rate 5%) 33:02 What are the challenge (muffled audio?) ... 34:30 Q&A1 36:09 Sol Price was Jim's lifelong mentor 36:30 Hmmm ... Is Jim talking about - Self-Renewal - The Individual and the Innovative Society (1964) by en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_W._Gardner ?? 37:03 Q&A2 re food court with low prices in a warehouse 38:40 Q&A3 Costco cultural ... 42:16 Q4 Majority of profit comes from Membership fees ... 42:53 A4 re Majority of profit comes from Membership fees ... 44:18 Jim still goes to Costco in every city that he is in! #awesome 44:40 Q&A5 New & innovative products ... 46:54 Q&A6 50:00 Q&A7 Pharmacy (Note: News to me and in case you don't know, to quote Costco's Q&A -- You don't need to be a to purchase prescriptions online or at our warehouses. )

Wrong. Price Club started in 1976, Costco opened in 1983. Merged in 1993. Both CEO's worked together previously at Fedmart.

If he raised the prices of just basics like chicken and bread by 50% , all the same people would still buy it and he would be a billionaire but his life would probably suck.
