Yup, and up until this year they were running a factory UCI Downhill team with some serious riders onboard. It was just a few years ago when they made to move to distribute their "entry level" trail bike thru CostCo. Intense is certainly not a department store bike LOL.

I've got 2 Intense bikes, a first generation Tracer $1,400 bare frame, and a Tracer VPP, $2,000 bare frame. They used to be hand-built in California. I don't believe they are making there own bikes anymore. Like everybody else, they are only building carbon bikes, outsourced to China. 😢

Dudes..... you guys don't know Intense?? It's a legendary brand started by Jeff Steber in the early 1990s. They have made state of the art bikes ever since, winning some big numbers in Pro Downhill Racing. Intense used the Horst Link suspension system before anyone (still in use today), made legendary DH bikes like the M1, M2, M3, Uzzi, Spyder, etc.... and winning athletes like Shaun Palmer, John Tomac, Leigh Donovan, Sam Hill, Greg Minaar, etc. First company to launch the VPP (virtual pivot point suspension with Santa Cruz bikes). And they still make ultra sick shit today.... but they scored a Costco exclusive. That is a full carbon frame. $2000 is a great deal for that bike. Why is it that little when the Costco by me says $3500?..... was it a return, damaged, a one off/last in stock? That would fit my 5' 10" fine. Damn!!

As someone who has purchased a Schwin Axum DP (upgraded it) and also purchased the Intense 951 XC I can tell you the Intense was a far better value. I purchased the Axum DP during the pandemic, prices got ridiculous and there was no inventory. Decent frame with horrible components. I upgraded the fork with a Rock Shox Recon. Upgraded the brakes with Shimano Hydraulic. Upgraded the pedals. It was still a very mediocre riding experience. Upgrades still needed. Tires, handlebars, drivetrain. Total cost so far: $800.00+. With needed upgrades the total cost will be $1000.00+. Then there is time and frustration. And what I have in the end is a bike that I have a lot of time and money invested in the I don't enjoy riding. I was in Costco the other day and saw the Intense 951. Original price was $3600.00, marked down to $1999.00. I went to the front desk to see how many they had thinking I might pick one up later. That was the last one in Idaho. It was the floor model. The manager gave me another 200.00 off. So, I paid $1800.00. If you buy them in the box, they come with a tool kit and a shock pump. The rear triangle is carbon fiber. All of the components are premium quality. It is a cross-country bike, so it appropriately has 120mm travel on the suspension and narrower tires. There is a trail version that has a different frame same shocks with longer travel and fatter tires. Intense has these identical bikes under different names sold for around $4000.00 on their website. As of right this moment Intense has "open box" bikes identical to the ones Costco sold for around $3200.00. I am guessing these are returns. I have been able to go on a couple rides and I find the bike absolutely delightful. Very capable, stable and light. This bike is an incredible value at $1999.97 (97 cents means that is the lowest price that item at costco). I would recommend that you guys buy one if they are still available and review it.

951 is a series/sub brand of Intense, meant to be more affordable. They were selling for 3k pre covid, and 4k after. Worth even the 2500 imo. They are basically lower spec versions of the Intense models. I think all they mean by adjustable forks is the rebound and compression and such. They have a 120mm xc version and a 140mm trail version. *also Fox owns Marzocci and the low end rhythm forks are basically identical to Marzocci’s

Superlight weight and fast with Maxxis Rekon Race tires. Great company, came with an awesome tool kit which had a shock pump, torque wrench and sealant with tubeless valve stems.

Intense has been making quality bikes for decades. That same bike is 3500 on Intense's website. That is a 150/140 bike . The fork and shock moat likely doesn't have any air pressure in them. Which is why the felt the way they did I doubt Costco has a shock pump laying around..

I've heard of Intense bikes, they are a boutique brand that has been around since the 90s. I used to read about their bikes in the magazines but could never afford them, this one is an excellent deal. I'd snap it up in a heartbeat if I didn't already have bought my Marin rift zone year before last.

That is a killer deal for a carbon frame Intense mtb. It is also pretty well-spec'd. The Fox 34 is a great XC fork and that looks like a Fox DPS shock. The fork has a rebound adjustment and a compression damper. Do you expect a bike to cost $1999 and have a $1000 Fox Fork w a Grip 2 damper? If the shock is a Fox DPS, it has a 3 position compression lever-- open, trail, and lockout.

Intense is a premium brand that has been around for a long time. Jeff Steber (owner) has been making downhill bikes that were repainted/ re- branded and several top brand’s riders won races on Intense bikes. I have been riding an Intense Carbine 29er for about a decade, and I would say that if you can find a brand new Intense carbon bike for $2,000 and can afford, buy it! All Intense full suspension bikes use the vpp suspension platform. (Virtual pivot point).

Intense is a great brand. I have a 2017 carbon Intense Recluse in 27.5. They ve been making high end bikes for decades. A real big history in downhill racing. They've been direct to consumer for quite a few years. I hope this move to a "discount" strategy doesn't soil their reputation. My recluse is sweet, i have the GX AXS, and AXS reverb dropper, I9 carbon wheels with the hydra hubs, a tuned Pike up front and a deluxe in back, and the 1up cockpit.
