The line technology is probably the same as Hawkeye in Tennis. 99.99999 % of the tennis ball can be outside the line and the rest on the line. That makes the ball in. Its not rocket science. The only problem is that FIFA do not show that on the big screen for everyone to see.

As an Spaniard I dont understand what happened. First half, very well Spain with the controll of the ball winning with The forward scoring a ball. But instead of pressuring and go for more goals the team decided to control the game and do not attack. With excess of confidence Luis Enrique change the good stricker Morata to another midfielder to control more the ball. However, at the second half, Japan change strategy and decided pressure spanish defense like Germany did. At this time was against the defenders that were the reserves and they achieved they steal the ball and Make goals with 2 Big mistakes. Luis enrique reacts with a great anger and change 4 players because of the mistakes did It. Excess of confidence. Later, japan decided to change strategy because Spain in 5 minutos achieved to control the ball and avoid any Risk, however, Japan put a defensive wall strategy. Impossible Spain to open the wall in 40minutes.

If there is one way to make sense of 3 games involving Japan , assuming the games aren’t fixed, it looked as if the first half of Japan searching for weaknesses in the opponents, while playing defensive, then the second half is where they put in fresh legs to score. In the game vs Costa Rica, their defense was more solid that Japan couldn’t penetrate as well as slipping up , allowing a goal that could have been avoided if the goalie didn’t jump too early, to a slow ball that wasn’t too hard to block normally.

Why should the mighty Germans or Spanish complain about a goal coming from a ball that could have been a bit in or a bit out of the line or even out; Does it change the fact that all the Spanish players in the box were all alert and could not stop the ball? Do you think that instant brought a bit of distraction on their part? I do not think so!

Before a ball was kicked I had Germany topping the group with Japan finishing second. The only results here that surprised me were Germany drawing with Spain. I was expecting another Bayern v Barcelona type of situation for that match. And Japan losing to Costa Rica. Japan beating Spain and Germany was no surprise to me. They have so much more fight in them. Spain are great to watch, but they want to walk the ball in the net. At this level you have to scrap and work harder than the opposition. They don't have that in their makeup.

Bundesliga is a joke. Bayern 10 in a row. The one saving grace was the production of young players but that has stopped. 60% of the Bundesliga is non German and the Bundesliga impact players are non German. What few Germans remain are lacking in testosterone. Also defending has been bad for many years. Very few clean sheets. The days of the likes of Karlheinz Forster are gone. The 2002 team despite missing half a team with injury got to the final on sound defending.

My initial comment is correct - the team was founded on a strong defence.

Germany didn't even play that badly this WC, just very unlucky in front of goal. But there are no "small teams" anymore. To expect that the "big" football nations just breeze through the group stages is silly. You hear the names of world class players on pretty much every team in this tournament. I think it's quite arrogant by the pundits to act like beating nations like Japan or Marocco or Saudi Arabia is the bare minimum and if you can't do it means you are just a very bad team. Instead of accepting that other nations also have strong teams now, they rather trash their own teams for losing. I remember back in 2014 when Germany won the WC we faced Algeria after the group stages and barely won by 1 goal in a 120 min fight of a match. And the german press went wild about what a great shame it was to just barely win against Algeria and how it is not looking good for the German team.

I think you’re exaggerating how much the other teams have caught up .. Japan have definitely improved a bit but there is still a way to go .. Germany were in fact quite unlucky as happens in tournament football sometimes. Football is a game of close margins even when there is a difference in class between teams .. a few close calls over three games can make the difference between going through top and going out. Germany have got a good team but lack a dominant striker .. had they had that they would have won all three games

At the moment ,its only saved by teams like Canada ,the U.S , Japan ,Morocco and Saudi Arabia's willingness to attack , their honorable reactions to hard tackles ,and remembering that footballers have an unwritten code of an *obligation to entertain* They haven't been poisoned by Europe's chronic addiction to crab football ,hoping to morph into Man City playing Watford. these people are talking like fools. anyone who knows basic physics would know that the ball was in. sometimes the eyes create an illusion of a physical reality when it's just a mirage. A ball in the air, depending on the angle of the camera shot, may look like it's gone over the line but it's not. a much better shot would be an overhead shot which neither the referee nor his assistance had. So the benefit had to go to the attacking team. If it was germany that scored that goal to progress, these racist people would have been saying how great they were!

Spain had no incentive to equalize! If they had equalized, they maybe would have been out and Germany move on.

no match fixing in 1982. Both teams just slowed up as both had qualified. Blame FIFA for the schedule.

Look at Brazil, France, Spain, Portugal - they all didn't show their best in the 3rd match and they didn't have to as they already qualified. You can't blame the teams for how the tournament is scructured. They will make use of every opportunity they get to rest players before the big matches...

You DO Understand the rule, do You? ANY part of the outside of the ball overlapping the line is considered IN. The views given SO FAR are from an angle so can fool the brain with a "parallax error" The Only View on which an Accurate determination can be made is straight along the line at ball height. Have You not seen that many times on corner kicks the ball appears to be off the line then the linesman comes along and inspects to Ensure it's legally "In" although to the naked eye it looks "Out". Possibly same thing here. I'm on the fence until FIFA shows a ground level on-line picture.✌️😎

@@oswaldjames5332 Bro the Ball was out. You saw it from the initial pull back from the Japan player. His Left Foot squared it back when the Ball was over the line. Even NASA can make things look different. But we have no say in this only opinions. I don't agree with your view. But I respect it. Slainte.
