Costa Calma Fuerteventura - Our 5 Night Break

We hadn't been anywhere together for almost 2 years so we decided to have a short break in the south of Fuerteventura. We booked an apartment in Costa Calma and arranged with my friend Gregg to have the dogs.
Unfortunately the weather wasn't great (actually it has been the worst May since we moved here 8 years ago). It was raining and very windy the day we arrived and the wind hardly let off at all for our entire stay. We intended to visit a few beaches, sunbathe, swim etc but it just wasn't suitable.
We went to Morro Jable for lunch, visited Beach Bar Aureola on Costa Calma beach and visited Oasis Park, Fuerteventura Zoo. We ate at the 555 restaurant and also Villa del Mar restaurant, both in Costa Calma.
The dogs had a wonderful time staying with Gregg and his dogs. Obviously they were tired as they slept for 20 hours in the first day.

It is good, although not as good as it could be for my particular pool as we have two steps from the deep to the shallow end. Although it can climb the the steps it does a bit in the shallow end but then ends up back in the deep end. I have to "take it for a little walk" using the cable in the shallow end to get the bits it misses. In a pool with a slope or just one level it would be brilliant.

We went to Jandia in May 2006. It blew a gale 24 hours a day for 10 days, in fact "gale" is an understatement. It blew the whole glass frontage in of our hotel reception in, and it had to be boarded up....the electricity was on and off constantly....you couldn`t even walk on the beach with bare legs let alone lie down because the sand, blasting against your legs was unbearable. The locals said it was the worst that they had known. We spent half the holiday in our room! The fact that our daughter (only child) was born 9 months later is probably no coincidence! The saying "its an ill wind that blows nobody any good" has never been more appropriate!

I have been to Costa Calma 15+ times and always stayed at Gorriones Hotel but had rooms in the apartment blocks which is separate to the main hotel and had not complaints. This hotel has had a make over and a new and the apartment blocks which there are four set in their own garden has spawned a new hotel called Innside Fuerteventura. I have stayed there twice and would highly recommend that as a place to stay. Food is excellent. With regards restaurants near Costa Callma, try the Restaurante Bahia La Pared, excellent sea food and watch the sun go down over Tenerife. Did you try Cafe Berlin for cake and coffee, great homemade pastries and cakes.

I think it is a great place if you like hotels, and eating in them, etc as they are mostly in the best places (all along the beach). For self-catering and eating out it is not so good. We struggled to find anywhere the first night (there were many that were currently closed) and ended up with a burger. We drove by Cafe Berlin a number of times (hard not to with the one-way system) but it always seemed to be closed. We have tried the hotel/AI thing but it's not for us though. I have been to that restaurant in La Pared for lunch some years ago.

Entertaining video, John, such a shame about the wind. It was ferocious down there, we played a padel match near where you were, and conditions were near-impossible. No less windy in Caleta, though! Just to reply to Stuart’s question, as things stand right now you do NOT need any COVID test to enter Fuerteventura from the UK. If staying in tourist accommodation, though, you need at least a negative antigen/rapid flow test certificate to sign into your accommodation! Tests for either direction are available in the airport priced €29. That restriction may go soon, but probably not before 5 June.
