Cost of Living in Puerto Rico | Palmas del Mar Community Expenses May 2019 | Living in Puerto Rico

Thanks for all your feedback, this video is now remixed for improved audio - ENJOY!
Before you pack up and move to Puerto Rico, you probably want to know about Cost of Living, Safety, Healthcare, and a million other details! Prices as of May 2019.
Start here if you are thinking about Moving to Puerto Rico. Information on Cost of Living for Housing, Utilities, Groceries, Transportation, Healthcare -
jentheredoneth...
After touring multiple areas of the island, we moved to Palmas del Mar resort community on the Southeast coast of the island. These are our actual costs, plus a home comparison of 3 bedroom options around the neighborhood.
Our actual utility expenses, based on 2 adults and the occasional house guest are:
Water (Palmas Del Mar has a private water utility) $90/month
Liberty Cable internet $100/month
Satellite internet (as a backup) from HughesNet $100/month
Electricity is around $230/month based on 23 cents/kWh, compared to average 13 cents/kWh in mainland United States.
All housing costs and expenses will vary based on our needs and behaviors. These are my actual expenses, and a comparison of a wide range of housing costs for three bedroom furnished rentals. Unfurnished homes will be less expenses, and homes outside of gated resort communities are less expensive, as well.
Housing prices are as of May 2019, when this video was filmed. Actual houses available and housing prices may vary due to normal market conditions. All housing prices quoted are based on a 12 month lease or longer for a furnished and equipped home in Palmas del Mar, Puerto Rico.

I would've chosen Cabo Rojo or Rincón over the metro area in a heart beat and with my eyes closed. You only want to be near the airport if you travel a lot, but if you're going to live here, a two (aproximately) hour commute to the airport won't kill you when you decide to travel. Besides, there's the Aguadilla airport which is way closer to Cabo Rojo and Rincón. The beaches of the west are the best.

Gary Stevens It’s a really late reply but schools very much do vary place by place. The best schools on the island are mostly specialized schools where you have to take an exam to enter and learn extra material that being arts, science, math, trades etc. They are scattered around the island and are easily accessible no matter where you live but if the public route isn’t of your liking private schools like Notre Dame offer an excellent curriculum that divides students in the more American like level system where your child can take ap classes if they can handle them. In summary the choices are specialized schools that honestly not everyone enters or private schools which are a lot more expensive. Hope this helps!

Deadly Vibez yes, I’m in dental school and have dental hygienists in my class who made $8-$10 per hour. In the states they make $30-$40 an hour. And same with the dentists. They make way less on the island than in the states. The insurance companies pay way less for the services rendered. And since people don’t make a lot of money the professionals can not charge very much.

Thanks for the nice tour of the property. It's a beautiful resort! I have heard that this is one of the more expensive places on the island. Now I know it! This is in no way very reflective of Cost of Living in Puerto Rico as a whole or average though. While usually housing is the top expense for most people, there are many other things as part of a budget (health care, groceries, insurance, cars/maintenance etc). Maybe I'll make a video about cost of living from our perspective which is MUCH more frugal and closer to the average Puerto Rican expenditures. (We seriously only live on appx $1000 total per month and don't feel deprived at all!)

When you live in the Washington, DC metro area, Palmas del Mar looks like a good bargain to me if you are looking for a nice place to retire. However, I do not like the beaches of the Humacao area, I rather live on the West Coast of the Island, specifically, Cabo Rojo. Another area is Dorado where I lived in the early 90s when it was a best-kept secret, but now is too congested and it has lost its charm. The beaches in the Dorado area are very nice also, Los Tubos, Mar Chiquita, Puerto Nuevo. The Cabo Rojo area is less developed and you can still find areas surrounded by nature, that is, unspoiled by untamed urbanization. My mother lives in Boquerón, across from the Bird Sanctuary, my favorite place to go running. The area of La Parguera is beautiful and the towns that follow are underdeveloped but move there with caution since the earthquakes.

Palmas del mar is a very exclusive and expensive area. There are hundreds of cheap areas in Puerto Rico to lease or buy. Obviously she's well off and wanted to live in a very upper class residential area. That's extremely expensive for Puerto Rico. Just hop on classificados. You can rent a shoebox like me for 325 on upwards in san juan. I enjoy just saving all my check towards my other goals. In sanfrancisco i was paying 3000 a month for my house amd 800 for my landrover. Here im not trying to impress anyone just live and travel where i want. Almost when i want. You can find much cheaper livibg thsn 1k a month. For $753 a month i can buy a 2 floor penthouse in a good area. 3bdrm 2 bath. Its cheaper to mortgage than rent.

If you file the paperwork moving from the Mainland to PR nets you a 4 percent tax rate on you, your partner and your business. A lot of people who live in these communities do just this and spend the rest of they’re lives paying little to no money on taxes which over 20 or 30 years adds up to in many cases millions of dollars saved while living in a golf resort. I run my office AC for a couple hours in the heat of the day (11am - 3pm), and only my bedroom AC at night to sleep. If my house had screens to keep the mosquitoes out, I would sleep with my windows open 9 months out of the year! The mountain towns don't need AC at all, and I like a big, cozy blanket when I sleep to keep me warm. kzread.info/dash/bejne/hZmepNhrhNi9edY.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/d6B-ztCIY7SbYpM.html
