Loving that not only does she still remember her Myspace password but also what her Yahoo account information was. I have some priceless pictures of me in a Brittany Spears outfit and my boyfriend dressed like an old lady and my girlfriends kids putting him in his bra. It was at least Halloween.

I thi k I’m the only person I know who actually approves of teen me’s style choices. I wore mostly soft grunge in my early teen years (floral dresses with Docs), and then a very lacy sort of boho chic with some romantic goth elements. If I had the body for it, I’d definitely be happy to wear it again for at least one dress up. I still think what I wore was really nice.

when I was 16 years old, I was a weird version of a goth-ified Avril Lavigne. I would wear black print shirts (usually with skull print), cargo pants, spiky black belts (which of course were not there to hold the pants but were loosely draped around my hips), black converse and of course necklaces with skulls. tbh I felt pretty good and powerful. and now I just look like an english governess and my co worker calls me "Mary Poppins".

The way that we all still remember the lyrics to those songs.. shows us that no one truly leaves the emo phase. She’s still in there.

As an Australian, I have to say that I really didn’t understand the American Uggs as fashionable shoes thing. They’re slippers! Extremely comfy and warm slippers, but still only slippers. They’re pyjamas for your feet, and not to be worn outside the house- unless it’s like a late night Maccas run, where no one cares that you’re in your pjs in public. Don’t get me wrong- I LOVE me some uggs- my feet are cold unless it’s 30C. Though these days I tend to go for the lower slip on types, being disabled and unable to bend down to pull the boot types on. But as much as I adore the confines and warmth (and the fact that I wear them 9 months of the year, basically all day, every day that I’m at home- which is most of the time), I’d never wear them out of the house. Because they’re slippers! (Well, except for the specially designed winter boots they made, which my Canadian friends tell me are the best winter boots ever).

My high school cosplay would involve corsets (waist only), pinstripe button downs, pinstripe high tops, black chain pants, a red skinny tie, and a gallon of jet black hair dye... Can you tell i liked hot topic? Edit: I really need to do this now! Also, I love function of beauty.

As someone who graduated HS in 2006, I loved it. I was most def guilty of wearing a men’s tie with t-shirt, and the most flarey of flare jeans. Take it easy on yourself with the make-up - we did not have youtube tutorials and we were more interest in a natural look than our 90s counterparts. Face powder, eyeliner and mascara were all we needed.

at 55 i am returning to my teenage style and irs what you call retro! it was, even back then.. for interesring clothes, we lived out of op shops. i am so much happier since dressing like this! thank you for the reminders, Rachel! xx

Love this! 😂 I also was a little MySpace coder and Emo teen in middle school. Bless my mother’s heart and the patience she had while she saw me fry and tease my hair up to the heavens, as well as letting me stain multiple towels with black hair dye. 🤣
