    I really felt that tip about footwear lol. With my third cosplay I was cosplaying Servant Of Evil (Vocaloid) with my friend and I made a three piece suit for myself. The day before the convention I'm getting everything ready and trying it on and realize I only own sneakers... My older brother had dress shoes he let me borrow but being being a younger girl I had to stuff three grocery bags into each just to keep them from slipping off with each step. My feet looked monstrous at the convention. Good times lmao.

    This is an older video, so I’m mostly commenting for random beginners who might find it: Think about the heat and/or cold when you pick your cosplay, please. If you’re going to a con in the middle of a hot summer you probably don’t want to be wearing full body armor all day. At least not as a first cosplay, later you will pick up tricks for how to do things like that safer if you want to. But seriously, as somehow who is trying hard to un-learn the ”you have to suffer for your art!” thing, staying safe and comfortable is super important.

    Like I said, at a convention, no one is going to judge you for cosplaying! There's so many benefits to being in cosplay at a con, particularly that just wearing a costume is a huge icebreaker for you to get to know new friends. YOU CAN DO IT!

  • @seanlowry2811
    @seanlowry2811 Жыл бұрын

    The time and work needed to make my costume excites me, to be honest, what is a major turn off is, I’ve spent over 1,000 dollars on getting all the necessary tools and equipment, only to then get a cold dose of reality about just how expensive EVA foam is. Fifty dollars for one 14in x 39in piece of foam. That’s insane! Currently looking at other alternatives like interlocking foam mats…

    What do you think about colored contacts? Where do you think is the best place to buy them? I want to cosplay a character that has a different eye color than me, but I wear prescription contacts, what should I do?

  • @SynergyCraft

    @SynergyCraft

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hey! Personally I can't wear colored contacts as I have mild astigmatism, so I don't have any personal experience with that. I do have friends who use them and you have to be extremely careful with where and how you get them. Quoting the CDC here, "By (United States) law, decorative contact lenses, whether they correct vision or not, require a prescription and proper fitting from an eye doctor. Any type of contact lens that can be purchased without a prescription is being sold illegally-and can pose serious risks to sight and eye health." It might seem crappy to have to take extra steps when it comes to colored contacts, but its worth it to be as safe as possible when looking to buy some. Since I don't have experience with it, im not comfortable recommending a brand and taking the risk of the brand being unreliable or dangerous. But definitely do some extensive research on various retailers and make sure they meet required safety standards! Best of luck to you with it, and i apologize that I couldn't be more helpful with this one! ❤

    @@SynergyCraft Thank you! I was trying to do research on buying some, but I couldn't find anything about what the best thing to do is. A big stick certainly could work for a staff! It just depends on what kind of staff you're trying to make 😁 I would suggest if you do, to make sure it's really clean, and you might want to look into some information on whiddling/woodworking if you want to take the bark off. Super creative idea!

  • @SynergyCraft

    @SynergyCraft

    4 жыл бұрын

    Waaayyy back in the day when I started cosplaying, I made a kimono-style top for my Pokemon Gym Leader Erika cosplay by using a store-bought pattern for a bathrobe and altering it! I made the bottom of the sleeves wider and longer, and then you can adjust the length of the whole thing as well, making it shorter or longer as needed. I recommend using some kind of cheap fabric (such as muslin, which you can find for 2-3$ a yard) to make a mockup first, check the fit, and then make the real thing with your good fabric. :D To make the obi, you'll just have to measure yourself and you should be able to make a long, wide rectangle that will work. I hope this helps!
