Thanks for putting this together. Our fish are being poached be foreign trawlers. The families need to be able to continue to fish. The big factories can buy from them. This is an injustice.

I was born in Durban, South Africa, lived there until the age of 22 years and I never knew that Kalk Bay was multi racial. Love this video so much of history explained and highlights the diversity of South Africa..

There wasn't only phillipino and other ethnical groups that came to south Africa and lived in cape town. many of the kalk bay fishermen families in kalk bay and many other places also have strandloper/bushman/khoi.... same goes for houtbay.

I haven't started to watch this documentary yet, but it brings to mind a mini series from about 2008/2009 called "Ella Blue" about a fishing community on the West coast who had some Scandinavian ancestry, the village and even within the same family ranged from dark skinned to fair with blue eyes. They were all living happy and getting on with life until the census man came along and insisted on classifying everyone according to colour. And you know what that meant in the old SA!

Pity pity that Kalk Bay cannot be developed. Like Hout Bay. With a fisherman wharf. Very informal. For the budget tourist. With opportunity to walk on the pier. To the lighthouses. With many such developments. Along the. Atlantic sea board

Ask John, he shared on facebook. I'm wondering if my ancestors knew the Poggenpoels when they came over from Germany(Saxony) & Holland? My Ancestors arrived 4 years after the Poggenpoels.
