This is simply untrue. Polyphonic singing is a typical Thracian/Bulgarian feature. It can still be observed in the Razlog/Bansko region, where young lads gather in the evenings and sing polyphonic tunes without Philip Koutev, the director/conductor of our socialist time adapting their songs. He simply transferred this existing knowledge to all the Bulgarian folklore. Do not underrate what he has achieved, all the world has heard about Bulgaria thanks to him. The so-called Byzantium church singing is similar to that, Byzantine, but created by the Bulgarian Yoan Kukuzel.

@@chistachkata The few times that I've heard true folk polyphonies from Bulgaria, by village people apparently alien to any kind of official training, it was very different from this. It was not "sweet", not "mysterious", it was rather wild, often with daring dissonances, of a general aesthetic similar to that of Greek Epirot, Albanian, or Macedonian folk polyphony. Really fascinating, obviously archaic and real, but not as catchy and easy listening as to make the world talk abut Bulgaria.

I have as well some songs´ names, here you have, if you do not have these pieces names: the last song is "Zaburil beh da se zhenya", in 33:08 the song is "Rechenski Kamen", but I have just one part of the lyrics from 34:02 check it... 1. If you know cyrillic and you wanna sing, at least, this part, then I hope you enjoy this song, I hope as well return here and offer them more contributions, greetings from Mexico 😊😉 I forgotten one thing: if you want to see some of these songs and others, you can check it in the Simona Stanoeva channel, she appears here in this ensamble.

Each composition has its own region of origin within the country. There are some specifics from which you can tell which region the song is from. For example if there are sudden stops before the phrase ends or there are very high short "yells" (Shopluk). Or if the song is more even and minor in sound (Thrace). The style of the songs has been modeled through different historical influences like the Ottoman rule over the years. What makes it different is the technique - women are singing mainly from the throat, not so much like western belcanto supported from the diafragm. This way of singing is much more demanding on the vocal chords. Also the vocal range in the folklore songs is very short - only 1 octave.

What do you mean they should? They're singing for enjoyment and beauty not for you. I don't speak Bulgarian either but I can enjoy it all the same

Performance 10/10, recording 6/10. Even turning the volume down on my end, there are more than a few moments where the sound distorts when they're all singing together, or when they sing louder sections. My guess is that they had one set of mics that were set too hot for those sections.

These are only Bulgarian national costumes, simply many peoples that today we call Slavs accepted the culture, language (alphabet) and Orthodox Christianity from the Bulgarians.

It's a traditional Bulgarian folklore song Хубава си моя горо/Hubava si moya goro, which translates You are beautiful, my forest

The name of the first piece is Хубава си, моя гора / Hubava si, moya goro / You, my beautiful forest . It's like a second national anthem to every Bulgarian... Not only the melody but the lyrics are grievous too...

@@noradosmith if you like this, you should look for Bulgarian Orthodox singing then. This is a typical style, although normally sung by men. This is more stylized of course but the base is there.
