1 1/2 things I would like to add. 1. If you don't have an owner's manual, for whatever reason, GET ONE! 2. Order a set of factory shop manuals for your car. Not that you will try your hand at repairs; it helps you to explain your issues to your tech, they now have needed repair info/procedures for your specific car. These two publications will answer A LOT of questions for the car owner.
I like the fact that you never talk down to us. I consider myself a car guy but always learn from your videos. Thank you for taking your time to help all of us.
I hung around for the entertainment factor, but I always learn something from you Lyle. Being entertained is a bonus extra. "Rickitee Rickitee Rickitee" got a chuckle out of me. All your videos are more than worth watching with vast knowledge, and I'm thankful to be Subscribed.

Welcome aboard Ship Lyle! Oh he is definitely funny.
Very informative video, thanks for sharing. Whenever I am seeking C5 or C6 info, C&S is my first stop on KZread. Thanks for all of your hard work.
Lyle always has the corvette knowledge thanks 🙏
I love your videos. You've taught me so much about Corvettes and cars in general. This was very informative for me.
Thank you! This is excellent info. I am a C5 owner.
Parts desk reps all over the world are gonna love this
Great information, I have a 96 and had no idea the analog gauges tend to be off, def an unnerving thought when you are driving and monitoring your eng temp for instance knowing c4s run hot.
Basic but very very important points!
As a former tire designer I am impressed that your information on tire age and wear is so accurate. Nice job.

Hey Lyle, I started not to watch, figured I knew the basics. As always, you gave me some things to think about. I would have thought my C5 AC controls were analog instead of digital. Thanks!
Always entertaining, and I appreciate the fact that you won't tell anyone that I learned something, but I learned something. Keep the videos coming Lyle
EXCELLENT tips.
Great information. Some of your examples got me smiling.
Always on Point...Thanks Lyle.....
WOW very interesting super kool ,1st class great info.,, AAAAAAAAAAA++++++++++++ again great video I liked it a lot ,keep up the great work.
Very informative Lyle and thank you. We can all use this advice.
Good show dude I enjoyed it hard to believe that some people are that UH oh WEll lmao
Definitely a great video and I know most of this stuff you talked about as i hVe owned 2 c5s other than the striker good to know it now .. thanks for these videos yes I agree its a another language to talk about the cars or when you explaining to someone . Gave a 👍 to the video also.
Good reminders, tnx!
Thanks for all the awesome content really helped me when buying a c5 ended up with a 2004 6 speed with 70000 miles absolutely love it. It does have a harmonic balancer on the way out but I was able to spot it and point it out to the seller.
Good stuff, new vette owner (91 CONVERTABLE😉) the Video very helpful. Will save me time and embarrassment when talking to my mechanic. I have subscribed to your channel and I'm looking forward to future video presentations thank you
Lyle, thanks for taking the time and effort for making these videos. Just wanted to say there were some non-Z06 C5 Corvettes with a fixed roof that were not convertibles or targa tops.
@justinkrizenesky
2 жыл бұрын
He mentioned those, he technically did say 99-04 Z06 FRC's. While an incorrect statement at its base, it did cover the non-Z06 FRC's.
Just ask people if its on the drivers side or passenger side. People should be able to comprehend that. If not they shouldn’t be behind the wheel period. Also Lyle a tire can have lots of meet or tread but could have lots of cracks in the tires or sidewall bulges or issues that sends a warning sign to replace them A.S.A.P.
@cscorvetteify

Oh, Mark...we could tak for days about how many people shouldn't be behind the wheel--especially here in FL....:) Lyle
Good stuff!
Another thing to add: batteries. Running car batteries down to low levels damages them. If you car battery has been dead enough that it can't turn over the engine more than once, replace it, regardless of the age of the battery, especially if you live in a northern climate.
Cool 😎...
I love the long, heavy sighs before he starts a topic. You can tell this man has had years of conversations with people who aren't thinking hard enough about what they're actually saying. Poor Lyle.
Hello Lyle, I’m James, El Paso Tx. I bought 2014 corvette new. Car has 9k miles on it. Car is garaged. Rarely out in sun except when driving. Infotainment screen works, then starts flickering, then goes black, then starts working again. Corvette forum shows other c7 owners having same problem. Would be nice if you would do a video on this, and what to do about it. I’m 68, and will probably keep this car rest of my life. Car is in mint condition other than this. Looks to me cost to fix this problem is around $1500, and then new screen may go out again in 3 years. Then another $1500 to fix, then same problem may occur 3 years later, etc, etc. James
Love your videos! How about a video on driving a corvette on two lane highways through hilly country? My driving style changes drastically from when I’m driving my GMC 4x4 pickup where I have great vision down the road when passing a vehicle to being extremely cautious when passing a vehicle in my C-6. In the C-6 my normal eye sight level is approximately 39” above ground level while in my pickup my eye level is approximately 59”. In the corvette I’m always looking for debris in the roadway to avoid because of ground clearance and oncoming traffic hiding in plain sight because of a “slight” hill. LOL

That is a great idea! Let me see what I can put together. Lyle
👍🎯😎 Thx
To add to the last tip about gasoline.... if you have a really SWEET C5 Z06....... be sure the gas tank is completely full and bring that baby in on a Friday... that way, we can take it to Myrtle Beach for the weekend, and don't have to worry about stopping for gas!!!! 😁😁 Vroom vroom, I kid, I KID!
This episode needs a new name. Instead of 101 it should be cars for dummys. I was a guy that helped my Dad rebuild everything from lawnmowers to cars. We replaced a Volvo clutch bolt with a bicycle axle once. Yes, it was on the driver's side, did turn over start and run.😂
Darn I did learn a couple things…. Cool
Thanks…
Henceforth, every video must include, "Riggy Diggy Riggy Diggy".
Hey bud great video is always was wondering your opinion if you had to buy a Corvette right now what year and model would you buy I just recently sold a 2004 C5 that had a screwed-up slave cylinder and got like 20 grand for it with 21,000 miles what do you think I should upgrade to thanks for any input hope all is well. And c8 is put of question for me haha
On the C3 Convertible, when you ordered it, the hardtop was thrown in as an extra i belive.
@kirkthejerkthe1st

It was option CO 7 and cost $232- $274 depending on what year C 3.
Lyle, did you make a video of using Techron concentrate plus fuel system cleaner in the gas of a C5 to protect the fuel pump assembly. If so, I can't find it. Thanks, Wayne
@cscorvetteify

I have mentioned using SeaFoam to protect the fuel level sending rheostat in the gas tank, as well as cleaning injectors. Great product with no downsides. Lyle
Always excellent; thank you Lyle! On the C1 Corvettes....I see them advertised as 'roadster' or 'convertible.' The roadsters appear to only have a soft top. The convertibles have the detachable hard top. Is that correct?
@cscorvetteify

Duane, those two terms are fairly interchangeable today, but you are absolutely correct on the actual difference between the two terms. Lyle

Is there any Corvette repair shops you recommend in the Los Angeles area?
I could tell some of those were annoying you sir. Good tips though and thank you.
Thanks ,I have been following a local, Kansas, 2013 LT3 Coupe , automatic 18000 miles , clean car fax, 2 owner , some wiring repaired at 9K and steering column replaced +11K miles . On market for 35 days , missing history of the last 2k miles . Any comments on wiring and steering repairs , tendencies ? Very clean car,…only got a 10 , 15 minute dealer test drive. Thanks, Steve
@cscorvetteify

Not a common issue in my experience. I would be curious what caused the wiring to fail...rodent intrusion? hard short? Steering columns don't fail with any regularity, so that is another anomoly. I wish I had more info on these issues, but they are uncommon. Lyle

The first cr I ever drove on the road was a 63 ,,,,It had a rag top and a hard top that could be put in side behind you,,,is that a convertible or a roadster lol
Hey man, I’m having trouble removing my 2012 automatic shift knob, anybody can help out?

So. I need a lefthand screwdriver for screws on the driver side and a righthand screwdriver for screws on the passenger side? 😮
At the risk of getting cussed out by a tuber, it's sad that Lyle had to explain anything in this vid. Some folks are just better off taking the bus.

While I agree with you, it's better to educate people who enjoy the hobby, rather than turn them away. I've never turned a wrench (on a car) in my life, but it's good to know that I am referencing the right things when dealing with my car, and I assume those minor details would be extremely helpful to someone just getting into the Vette hobby.

I used to do tech support on the phone regarding PA systems. I can tell you I spent a lot of time educating people on the language just so we could communicate about the problem and possible solutions. Doesn't matter if you're talking about cars or guitars or camping equipment, if you're not using/understanding similar vocabulary, it's much more difficult to work through the issue. "The doo-hickey that goes in the thingamajig," only gets you so far.
Hello Lyle, so a 2008 C6 base, has 175,000 miles, but it says the whole engine seal was done. Does it mean the engine was disassembled down, done some work on it, and reassembled? Thanks in advance!
@cscorvetteify
Жыл бұрын
An engine re-seal doesn't involve tearing down to the block. It normally consists of oil pan gasket, front and rear crank seals, valve cover gaskets, intake manifold gaskets. Lyle
