Corvette C7 Jacking Proper Safety Stand Placement Locations

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video I discuss the importance of general safety when using a floor jack to lift a Corvette C7 and the varies locations to place safety stands. The safety jack stand placement location is very important not only so the car is stable when working under it but also to prevent any suspension or body damage. Have a comment, question or concern? Leave it down below and thanks for watching! -Glen

Great tutorial! i welded up four two post stands for my grand sport. i put the car contact piece on the jack first then jack it up on the pad. once to the height i want i put the two vertical legs on the top piece and pin it....works great and is the safest way i know of. the down side i use two floor jacks to make it really safe, so there is that extra cost.

Good one, I had a tough time getting the grandsport on to the styrofoam pads for the winter on the garage wall side because of no room for the jack but we got it done. And yes, gotta be real careful of the side skirts, there is no forgiveness there if you don't have a low profile jack. What company did you get the splitter from? I'm looking for one but I'm up in Canada so a lot of price difference due to the dollar exchange, shipping, and border crap going on now.

That's one purrrty undercarriage! I almost made myself look dumb and asked if that was a 4L80E, because I didn't recognize that trans pan, LOL. I keep forgetting we've got 6 & 8 speeds out there now. Glad I caught myself, LOL! My money is on the 8-speed in that one. You should film a video of how that thing shifts when the weather gets better - I've never ridden in anything with more than 6 gears. I'm curious how quickly it goes through them at light throttle, and when you jump on it. Man, that thing is at the same ride height as my buddy's crazy 900 RWHP '11 Camaro - he's got adjustable shocks in there, and has them as low as he could go without tearing the front end off pulling into a Dunkin Donuts every morning, lol. I can't even get my jack under the thing! Haven't tried it on the lift ... but cars that nice I tend to steer clear of working on. Makes me too nervous! I have worked on it in the past, long before the lift and new shop addition was built. Put on headers (fun in the driveway), and beefier rear control arms. That was also long before he put the cost of a new car into that thing to make it the fire-breathing monster it is today. I recall running into a GM-induced problem of the driver's side rear bolt that wouldn't come out, because it hit the fuel tank, or frame - we had to lower the cradle out in the driveway with a jack and stands just to remove one stupid bolt! Thanks, GM! Anyway, hope you and the family had a great New Year's, and have an even better 2021, Glen!

Yeah Smitty the A8 automatic shifts pretty fast and it's also quicker than the 7 speed manual. 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds. It was a tough decision for me but I decided to pay an extra $1800 for the automatic. The paddle shifting is fun and no clutch to deal with. My main reason was all the traffic where I live now since the small town has turned into a small city with all the NJ and NY'ers moving to Delaware. Shifting in traffic is for the birds. The other good thing is when I sell the car in 20 years to the younger generation there will be a buyer. Not many young folks these days can drive a manual trans and they won't be in the market to buy much with a clutch. 😉 Take buddy. P.S. The car now has 7900 miles and I found two leaks the other day...a/c pag oil and belt tensioner strut leaking. Yup, it's a GM. 🤷‍♂️

  • @johnmoore3504

I’ve considered using these on my C7 - www.jackpointjackstands.com they allow you to use the puck location as the stand location too. Be careful with the subframe / cradle that’s hallow aluminum so you need a block of wood or something to distribute the load. I use two jacks, one on each side (passenger and driver side) this way the car comes up level. Don’t forget to chock the opposite side tire so car doesn’t move. The parking brake and transmission will only lock the rear wheels thus if the weight is on front the car it can roll if not blocked. Stay safe!
