    I got myself a Cort X-250 and modded it to a HH mode with an Ibanez 5-way switch, Tonerider pickups and put a beautiful veneer on it. I love the guitar, esp. the neck, which is the most important part of a guitar. Unfortunately Cort doesn't make power strats with beautiful tops!

  • @ToroKchannel

    @ToroKchannel

    Жыл бұрын

    I agree that nothing is more important than the neck. Cort's finishes are different, but they're not trying to make something beautiful. How did you put a veneer on your X-250 ? Did you just do it by yourself or did you ask a luthier to do it ?

  • @ToroKchannel

    @ToroKchannel

    8 ай бұрын

    Thanks ! Ok let's compare the Fusion III and the Cort X 300 :) The Fusion III have a C shape neck, 21mm thick on the nut, 23mm on the 12th fret. It's versatile and comfortable. The Cort has a very flat U shape neck, I don't know the thickness but it's a bit thinner than on the Fusion III, very fast for shredding but it remains comfortable for playing chords. With the same shredding idea in mind, the cort has a 16" radius when the Fusion III has a 12" radius. The FR special on the Cort is ok, I had no problem with it but, of course, the FR 1000 series on the Harley Benton is better quality so maybe in time it will make a difference. Eventually, I love the EMG Hot 70 pickups for their power, sharpness and the clean tones they deliver is pretty good for some active pickups. On the Fusion III, you will get either some Roswell HAF or LAF. The HAF have a darker tone and an average output level. They also are microphonic. I had made a test, talking loud and recording my voice with my mouth 5 inches away from the pickup and I could hear it. Sounds funny but it also means that every move of your hand will be heard clearly when you play. The LAF don't have this problem (or, at least, I didn't notice it) and they have a better note definition. They deliver a rock tone that remains playable for metal, but will not sound as sharp and agressive as the EMG. The overall quality is identical on both, you should expect minor finish flaws but as long as it doesn't disturb the playability, it's ok. Hope this helps :)

    Thanks ! And thanks for this question that requires a pretty long answer ;) ok so first things first, we’re talking about 3 very good guitars. All 3 have a thin neck that’s a highway for shredders with great access to the 24th fret. Now, the shape of these necks are different. You’ve got a pretty flat U on the Cort, and a C shape on both the Solar and the Ibanez. If we consider the tone, I think the Solar and the Cort will pierce more easily thru any mix, bridge or neck position. I can’t talk about the Ibanez anymore as far as the tone goes cos’ I have changed the pickups for some Seymour Duncan Black Winter (those pickups are just amazing even for cleans, I love them ! ) I hope this will help you chose :)

    I haven't had an Ibanez RG550 in my hand so I cannot say a lot about it, and especially the built quality. As I mention in the video, this Cort X 300 was not flawless, but it only had minor flaws. I would expect much more from an Ibanez that's made in Japan ! Apart from that, with a better FR and tuners, this axe could step up in premier league :). Don't forget that the neck of this Cort will remain a bit thicker than the Super Wizard from Ibanez.

    The fret buzz unplugged come from the pretty low action (2mm on low E, 1.7mm on high E). Fret buzz is not a problem as long as you don't hear it when you play clean cos' an electric guitar is not made for playing unplugged. I've said in the video all I could say about the neck, it's thin, U shaped and pretty comfortable. I have enjoyed this axe a lot, I could not keep it but if I didn't have my Schecter Damien platinum FR, it would still be at home for sure.

    If you already started learning guitar and you wanna go for your first Floyd Rose, it's a very good choice. If you have never played guitar and wanna start with this one, I advice you should go for the KX 300 that comes with a hardtail and not a Floyd Rose. With a Floyd Rose, many basic things are more complicated : setting the guitar in tune, setting the intonation up, changing strings... And your right hand position (if you're a righty) is gonna be different cos' you cannot place your palm on the bridge. As far as the lenght of the guitar goes, I have not measured it, but it should be lika any super strat style guitar, so somewhere between 95 and 100 cms.

    Very good question ! As far as the tone goes, the Cort is way better. The stock Ibanez Quantum pickups have a good tone, but a poor note definition. Now for the playability I do prefer the Ibanez because of its 43 mm nut and the shape of the Wizard III neck feels like it's been made for me. The neck on the Cort is good and I've had a lot of fun with its super flat U shape neck as well. That's totally personal. The overall quality is a bit better on the Ibanez, with a nut that's perfectly well adjusted to the neck, no finish flaw and clearly nothing to reproach with anything. The cort didn't have a lot of flaws, all of them were minor and I could easily live with that, but it has to be mentionned. One last thing if you order the Ibanez RGA 42 : it's the lightest guitar I've ever had in my hands ! It's 3 kgs - 6.6 lbs. Hope this will help :)
