Correction to my Docker Explainer video
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
I made a mistake in my last video! I was incorrect when I said that the Operating System (OS) is inside a docker container. It actually uses the operating system from the host rather than containing an OS inside the container itself. The other points still apply though. Thanks to the viewers who corrected me in the comments below and taught me something new! I appreciate you!

Appreciate that you acknowledged and corrected your mistake. We all make them from time to time. Would love it if in your comparison, you could talk about how you integrate Zigbee controllers when running from a container. My controller is a USB device on my RPi - trying to figure out how would I make that work if I were to upgrade my device to more powerful device like a NUC or similar.
Subbed, perfect timing as I'm just about to jump from an old mac mini running HA in proxmox to my old gaming rig with docker. Then I can use the extra beef for AI on a 24/7 security camera/doorbell system, plex media server, virtual nas, Pihole, network management and virtualising my Windows pc so I can access it through thin clients around the house.
looking forward for the comparison - very interesting topic
Now looking forward to the next video EVEN MORE! 😄
Thanks for the correction, that’s very candid of you
Thanks for clearing that up. 👍🏻
Fine, I am pleased for the next videos about HA, HA docker and supervisor. The HA OS has a big disadvantage I think?: On a raspberry I cannot start any server paralell e.g a Webserver. I hope you will explain howto run HA with supervisor and hacs in docker.
You can actually run linux containers on windows, its been a feature built into docker for a while now

You need some sort of hypervisor though right?

@@HomeAutomationGuy yeah, I believe you need hyper-v enabled, although it will walk you through that during the install

Likewise docker on Mac can run Linux containers.

Actually, windows now has a linux kernel (wsl), which Makes hyper-v unnecessary

@@lucasmeira98 this is really cool news that a lot of didn't know, thanks! Do you know if there's a resource overhead? This will make the docker vs vm comparison even more interesting...
Just noticed it. Well said. We can all forgive the odd blip. Keep producing the videos. They are still a good idea.

Thank you David, I appreciate the support! We're all human and don't know what we don't know.
Video idea: how to make a smart home that doesn't look like a smart home (no obvious sensors, no visible robot vacuum, switches that work like ole school switches, etc).

💯 and no need to yell at a voice assistant that mis-hears you!
You may well need to issue a correction to this correction as you absolutely can run Linux Docker containers on Windows.

But only with a hypervisor. That's my story and I'm sticking with it. 😂

@@HomeAutomationGuy The problem with sticking to this story is that it isn't completely correct as they use WSL2 (which, sure, uses virtualization technology, but it is built right into the OS, not a 3rd party technology). So, technically, you do actually get to run native Linux Docker containers on a Windows host OS. :)

@@HiltonT69 Hyper-V is as much 'part of the os' as WSL2, in both situations you will still need to install the actual Linux kernel, so technically you're both right.
