Correcting Flaws in Racewalking Technique

How to locate and correct flaws in racewalking technique. This video has advice for both coaches and athletes and is useful at all levels of ability -- beginner, intermediate, or advanced. A system with the mnemonic LAPCraf is taught: Locate the flaw, make the athlete Aware of the flaw, Prescribe a technique change (including remedial mobility and strength exercises if needed), provide verbal and visual Cues to remind the athlete of the correction, and give RApid Feedback as the athlete learns the correction.
Many examples of common flaws are shown at full speed and in slow motion. The video illustrates several feedback methods for use as an athlete revises their technique. These include an inexpensive treadmill mounted video system, elastic bands, cell phones, and elastic tape.

    Thank you for your clear racewalking tutorial. I'll try your method out in my first 1500m racewalk at the New Jersey Senior Olympics next month (last year's winner completed the race in 10 minutes 40 seconds!)

    If done correctly, there is less force at heel impact in racewalking than in running. I had several knee surgeries during my running career and found that I could racewalk with much less discomfort during my recovery than if I tried to run.
