The part where Lord Barkis said "But I left you..." And Emily replied "For dead." breaks my heart because that means she was still alive when he left her. He gave her a fatal injury (I believe by stabbing her with a knife) and buried her alive, and that's why her hand was sticking out. But she probably died by suffocation. ;-; Poor girl.

And to think that this really happened at that time, she should have been someone from a rich family and he became rich by stealing from the women he had previously married, Emily was just another victim and Vitória would be next, in the end Emily finally finds peace and frees herself, after all she could never marry for love because that bastard destroyed her life.

I’m glad that you guys rooted for Victoria and Victor to be together despite a lot of people wanting Emily to be the one married to him. You knew that Emily was the underdog from the start, she was so sweet & quirky and we the audience really wanted her to be married like she was supposed to. While it’s sad she never got the ending she wanted, she got the ending she deserved and her sacrifice so others could be happy says a lot about her character (One of my childhood favourites!) ✨🦋

The actress who voices Victoria is Emily Watson, not Emma. Emily Watson is a two time Academy Award nominee.. if you saw the Chernobyl miniseries she was the physicist or most recently on Kingsman 2, she was the chief of staff... Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix) is the Bride and Johnny Depp is of course, Victor.... Both Helena (Tim's partner at the time) and Johnny are part of Tim's filmography for at least 7-9 films

Corpse bride is from Jewish folktale "The finger". Shivhei ha-Ari, a 17th-century text that includes a number of Jewish folk stories. Set in Russia, “The Finger” is about a young bridegroom who slips his wedding ring onto the finger of a corpse while reciting his vows.

Corpse Bride is one of my all time favourite movies. The whole dark and beautiful aesthestic, as well as the life, death and love themes - it's just so good. The music as well. The upbeat songs slap so hard, and the softer songs have this really beautiful sadness to them, very similar to the music in Nightmare Before Christmas. I also really love the use of piano music in the movie.

Tim Burton is heavily influenced by European fables and fairy tales, he then incorporates The Gothic, the Grand Guignol, and German Expressionism into his works. There is also the recurring theme of isolation and disconnection from the world and the search for true identity.

The butterfly is like a reminder for the audience to find out in the end that why he was drawing and studying the butterfly at the beginning. I thought MAYBE it was a reverse order of the plot of the film to suggest that how Victor remember and miss Emily. WHAT A BEAUTIFUL STORY.

I love how Tim Burton didn’t intend to make Emily and Victoria have an actual love triangle with Victor. Though at first it may have appear to go in that direction, in the end, Emily excepted the fact that Victor was initially in love with Victoria and put her own personal feelings aside to give Victor the opportunity to find his happiness. Which ultimately set her free from her pain and injustice. Emily did love Victor with all her heart but was willing to sacrifice it all with no resentment or anger towards Victor and Victoria. Emily also saved Victoria’s life from undergoing the same fate by the hands of Lord Barkis. Emily truly is a diamond in the rough

I have commented this before but the reason why the animation and camera work seems smoother is because this was the first stop motion film to be filmed on digital cameras. This meant they could check the animation as they went, whereas before when they used film cameras you wouldn’t know how the shot turned out until *after* you developed the film. If there was a mistake you’d have to do everything all over again.

I think it was this movie that they used dials for the characters faces instead of having separate heads (like in nightmare before christmas) . Apparently the animators would end up having nightmares of dialing up their faces

When you said that you thought Victor's parents were marrying into wealth, it's actually the other way around. Victoria's parents are broke and with this marriage, they won't have to go to debter's prison because Victor being the heir to a successful company has the money to save them from their debts. Marriages like that actually happened near the end of the victorian era if I'm not mistaken. Many men from noble households were broke and in desperate need of a rich wife to supplement their luxurious lifestyle. They actually married daughters from wealthy American familes which lead to the term 'American dollar princess'.

One of the best movies that Burton done is Big Fish. That is something I'd like you to watch and here your takes on. It is a wonderful story driven movie! My favorite thing about Corpse Bride is that the land of the dead is so full of colours and "life" and the living world is so bleck and "dead". Really nice contrast

Ooh since you guys seemed to love the series of Mike Flanagan (Haunting of Hillhouse and Bly Manor), please watch Midnight Mass, its pretty good and seemingly an underrated release for this year. It has such a profound commentary on religion but not too preachy.

When you said you thought this was going to be like a Frankenstein story, especially since the main character's name is Victor I had to think of Tim Burtons later stop motion movie, Frankenweenie XD Hope you guys will react to that one too, it's based on a life action short movie Tim Burton made as a side project while working for Disney and it's done completely in black and white (not filmed in black and white, but all the set pieces and stop motion figures themselves are made in black and white)
