As sad as it was that Victoria and Victor ended up being together, i understand that Emily fell in love with him so much, that she could never let him give up his life and not wake up one day with regret, she even says "I was a bride, but not anymore", indicating 2 things, number 1 being that she had her dream fulfilled, and is ready to move on and number 2 being her saying to him in her own way, "Thank you for letting me fill out my dream even after my death, now go live the rest of your life with happiness and adventure, I love you." And her soul could then pass on.

***** This movie hit me hard because I'm currently in love with a girl that looks so much like Emily, she is slim, faired skin, dark haired, beautiful, super smart, plays piano, very passionate, compulsive, and she nearly died on me. Now I'm looking at the probability that I may not manage to be with her and have the relationship I want with her. So it should give you an idea of how I felt when Emily wasn't the girl for Victor. Though I felt very sad for Victoria too, especially that part when Emily looked at her and told Victor that her dreams were taken from her and that now she's stealing someone elses, that bit killed me right there and it really did put us (audience) on Victorias side for a bit.

+ihopeutubedies That's false. There's plenty chemistry between Victor and Victoria. You think that just because they both play the piano and they did a duet, they're instantly a better couple? The only reason Victoria doesn't play the piano is because her parents wouldn't allow it. But it's better then for Victoria, as a developing character, to defy her parents' demands, and take back an accidentally STOLEN Victor from Emily. Everyone thought she was insane but it's all for a truer love than Emily had with Victor.

+Aelia Morris I think you interpreted it wrongly, for it does have a satisfying ending when you see Emily be at peace and her heart mend after making the right (moral) choice, that is to not take another woman's man to fill that empty void in her heart. Victor might think of her, yes, but he's still having that full life with Victoria, with kids and such, and they are going to die too and be together in the afterlife... Also, Emily's murderer gets what he deserved so it's a happy ending.

***** Actually his interpretation is very straight forward and over simplistic. I guess one could look at it the way he did, but I find your interpretation to be more accurate of what Tim Burton was really conveying, but like you said it's all subjective I think. When I watched the movie for the 1st time, long before these comments existed, I pretty much draw the same conclusions about the movie as you did.

Tim Burton is pure INSPIRATION I remember listening to this soundtrack this helped me to write a speech that I had to deliver for my grandmother's funeral . With too much pain I felt I couldn't write anything until I heard this soundtrack I actually wrote the best speech according to my family. Thanks to Tim Burton and Danny Elfman.

“i love you Victor, but you are not mine“ -Emily That really shows how much she truely loved him.. That she would be willing to be crushed and let him go off with the one he loves so he could be happy. Emily deserved so much more than what she got.. Thats why shes my favorite..

I just watched this movie again and have never shed so many tears. WHY CANT THEY JUST BE TOGETHER. THEY ARE LITERALLY PERFECT FOR ONE ANOTHER.

The genius in the song that you can hear it as a kind of argument between the pair. Soft, solo notes to begin that reflect Emily’s heartbreak, then a slow crescendo as Victor tries to lift her spirits and she rejects him, before it builds to a packed song showing the conflict before concluding in a bash of understanding

My favorite part is Victor's two attempts of upbeat music. (1:10- 1:16) sounds so eerie and sweet, like a petite female ghost, and (1:17- 1:24) sounds a little more intense, almost like a male ghost just suddenly takes her hand and twirls her on the dance floor. Crap, another great story idea lol. I claim this idea! I just saw it and heard it in this piece. Please don't take it. I swear when I hear the male ghost part, I can almost hear him say "Shall we dance?" at the end. In addition, (1:24- 1:26) is when the female ghost stutters as she sets her feet in place, while the male smirks a bit. Then (1:27-1:37) is when he suddenly sweeps off her feet (sorry if that is too cliche) and they started dancing in sync. Please don't steal this. I don't know why this keeps happening to me! Almost every time I listen to a classic piece, piano waltz music, or even something similar to this, I can see stories in the music!!

What a beautiful way to show that music is a universal language

This duet is one of my all time favorites. I don't know how many hours (while a bit tipsy and alone) I'd replay the exchange. Beautiful and touching and in the end--heartwarming. ❤

Yeah, I always loved how Emily looks utterly pissed at that part lol! But, in all seriousness... The subtle facial expressions the animators managed to capture, especially considering this is stop motion, are stunning, and it really brings the characters to life. Despite the fact their puppets.

I love this, it's a really nice way of making up, a little romance too! it's so cute.
