They planned for the virus to go through its natural cycle and be immune from it, but didn't take the proper procedures to protect their elders and the weak. Now thousands are dying for nothing. I personally would prefer to cripple the country and save lives. Repeat the process again when the second wave begins until a vaccine is found.

Sean Kilburn schools will need time to set things up and organise what staff and pupils come to work etc. Even if pupils aren’t in, staff still need to plan what they can plus take what they can home.

In all honesty I hope its controlled but it won't. No way kids in the South Wales valleys where I'm from will comply and stay at home. The people that have died have had been in the over 70's or have been vulnerable due to other health conditions. 104 deaths is still a low number. Many people have had it and been fine. Listen to what they are saying about who THOSE most at risk are.

That isn’t a contradiction. He’s saying that the effect of closing schools will slow the spread in both cases. Personally, i think he is wrong to say it will slow the spread since the children who would normally be at school will now have to go to their extended family, such as their grandparents and will spread it to them.

It’s is a contradiction. Clearly. Closing schools will slow the spread, so how can keeping them open slow spread too? You’re talking solely on spreading to their grandparents. That will be the grandparents responsibility to self isolate and others will have to make their own childcare arrangements. U don’t sacrifice slowing the spread because of fear of People not being able to go work and stay at home to look after the kids. Get the priorities right.

After the craziness of last year's shenanigans in parliament, floods, etc to deal with this too, wow what a time to be PM. I'm glad Boris and the conservatives are in charge with a strong majority, can take action and are listening to the science. These are difficult times with no easy answers. They must be exhausted, I certainly wouldn't want the job.

His reaction isn't late it's timely and measured for the NHS to cope with it. Complete lock down straight away has seen cases sky rocket quite quickly. Also lock down means that a second wave of the virus is likely!

@Lillith Fenris well I've been left on my own plenty of times and recently they shut the schools bc of shortage of staff but only yr 9 and yr 8 went off bc apparently yr 7 can't look affterthemselves tho all ages above can and yr 10 and yr 11 needed to revise so they went in as well

Schools as safe places for students and teachers, hmmm. Children may not experience bad effects of this virus, but older teachers would be at risk. As a teacher, parents send their sick children to school all the time, with little to no consideration for others. Children pass on all sorts of bugs to each other and staff, staff are continually home sick or working while sick as a result.

@@DuskAndHerEmbrace13 uh no they are right. there is no need for a crowd of people. we have tv and even youtube as they have shown here. so why they can't make it an online thing where journalists have access to a private forum to ask their questions is beyond me. not sure why you think this gathering of people is at any less of a risk of spreading the disease than pubs etc.

can’t see them closing schools again :/ funny they closed schools with like 134 cases recorded in those last 24 hours back in march but here we are in october with 10k + cases and deaths rising every day. make it make sense

Jessica Conde Vlogs as a chef yes I do believe they should stay open as long as possible otherwise I would loose my job and get Statutory sick pay of £90 a week. And with an 18month year old at home how the hell am I supposed to provide properly and keep a roof over our head? People who moan about these places being open probably get normal rate of pay for being off work and are enjoying the time off. It’s easy for everyone to say shut these places when they only think of themselves

Schools to close until further notice. I don’t think the government is agreed a three month holiday cushion on household bills. Most homes are going to be running up enormous bills in the isolating period with their kids at home etc.

@@sakal88 No, so far the death rate in the uk is around 4%, with the estimated actual death rate of the virus worldwide estimated at 3.4% by WHO. While it may seem like a small percentage, 3.4% is still highly significant due to the size of the population. A death rate of 50% is completely ridiculous, surely if you think about what that would mean you wouldn't be mindlessly posting such things.

It's also 4% of those tested and found to have the virus, many have symptoms will self isolate and be fine not knowing if they had it. It's going to be some time before we will know the numbers

Most retired healthcare pros will not want to put themselves at risk - they're in a high risk age group and be exposed to a higher viral load than the average person in the community. Nobody is talking about viral load, mutations, etc. except for non mainstream channels. However, I must admit it's a joy to be childfree, especially at these times. Good luck!

Native Ads Lab if they do bring back retired nurses and doctors, I don't think they'll be sent to the 'frontline' to deal with coronavirus patients themselves. My guess is they'll take care of stable, non-corona patients recovering from other conditions. This will free up doctors in service (and much younger and healthier) to the frontline.

Containment/suppression by isolation wont work, it is already spread too far and there is the issue of repeated infection from overseas visitors. So far there arent cures or vaccines, so those would be seriously blind bets. Utilizing our own immune systems is the only fix we have. If enough people become immune then any pockets or instances of infection will fade away. There are enough people that young/healthy enough to survive infection to do that. Meanwhile we must provide a safety net (the NHS) for those in that group that dont do so well. And robust protection for those that are more vulnerable. All the while remembering that you have to maintain an economy that is able to feed everyone.
