Loved the old days without constant background noises and music like today

I think today they use soppy music instead of words as the writing talent appears to have dwindled!
Them Websters must be keeping `Jackson's Chippy` in business !
I remember the actress who plays Debbie Webster playing Johnny Briggs sister in the kids program of the same name but not from corrie originally
1:35:49 “Our Terry” back when he was a hottie. I wasn’t even born in 1984 but I love the old Corrie episodes, especially when a young Nigel Pivaro is in them, he was really rather sexy.

Lots of controversy about what happened with Fred. Varying various stories told over the years about it. Fred Feast, the character who played him, suddenly took several weeks off in 1983, forcing re-writes at short notice. Feast said he had been suffering from depression, with random fits of tears and problems remembering his lines. It seems that in true 1980s style, no help was offered to him and the powers that be started to dislike him. He refused to sign a new contract, upset that he felt they were making Fred Gee into something of a buffoon, and said he didn't want to be another 'Coronation Street Cabbage'. Rightly or wrongly, this was interpreted as a tasteless reference to the likes of Bernard Youens (Stan Ogden) and Jack Howarth (Uncle Albert) who had both died recently. Another side was also reported: "Feast's departure from the serial in 1984, after 552 episodes, was abrupt. Bill Podmore was furious at Feast's refusal to sign a new contract after allegedly agreeing verbally to do so - or to allow storyline writers extra time to write his character out. However, Podmore [the producer] was not sorry to lose someone who had caused him headaches with his off-screen activities. He wrote in his 1990 memoirs, Coronation Street: the inside story: "Fred gave us all more than our share of trouble. He was not much of an ambassador for Coronation Street and there were several occasions when I hauled him into the office for a dressing down. On one particularly embarrassing occasion he distinguished himself at a Variety Club dinner by shaking bottles of champagne and spraying anyone within range."

@30.00 when Victor has now ALSO proposed and Derek comes to the shop to announce that his co-workers are buying he and Mavis' wedding gift-- "It's a tea's made." The writers were fantastic not just with this storyline but the puns to go with it!😂

Mike was such a fantastic, complex, three dimensional and totally believable character. He had his faults - he could be tough as old boots and stubborn as a mule, when he got the bit between his teeth. But there was a heart of gold beating beneath that brash, Cockney exterior! Introducing Mike Baldwin, a brand new Southern character to keep the Northerners on their toes, was one of genius Corrie producer Bill Podmore's first moves when he took over the show in 1976. Mike - alias that wonderful actor Johnny Briggs - hit the ground running, with the character pretty much fully-formed from his very first appearance. And he could do it all, brilliantly - comedy, tragedy, drama, romance. What talent! They threw so many diverse situations at Mike, and he handled them all with aplomb! Mike carried some of the show's most exciting and memorable story lines, and graced the cobbles for 30 years - hardly ageing a day over those three glorious decades! Good on ya Johnny, you were pure class.

I think Edith would’ve had potential as a regular character, after all they introduced Derek’s ex wife Angela in the ‘90s. We didn’t see Edith again until Derek’s funeral in 1997.

Looking back at the 80s episodes I didn’t realise that Billy walker is a good looking fella if I lived on Corrie st I would defiantly Chase him
Liked the way Percy turned it around in the Rovers by buying Terry Duckworth a Pint for narking him up to the fuzz… “Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil has a roaming eye walking about.. seeking who he may devour!..”… be vigilant 😂😂😂.. you had to hand it to old Perce at times…
Poor Fread they treated his character so bad it rubbed off on him he became depressed and written out
interesting how they talk at around 17:00 about their concerns about crime. In the 80s, violent crime in particular went through the roof and the UK had the highest rate of violent crime in Europe. There were lots of theories as to why - the massive unemployment rates, changes in women's roles and even lead in petrol making people go a bit mad.

My theory, the vile harpy thatcher. What Britain is going through now is the harvest of the seeds sown by her and her cohorts. She destroyed the very fabric of the country and shat on working class people every opportunity she could.
1:18:10 Mike Baldwin to the rescue. It's amazing to see a character who is normally portrayed so negatively stand up for Fred and to use his leverage against Billy Walker.
Not sure if Kenneth Farrington was either a lousy actor or loathed how much the writers had turned his character Billy into a nasty piece of work.

Doris Speed who played Annie Walker hated how they turned his character and i think he why he quit the show.
I like Mavis very much. Of course shes extra and it takes time to listen to her, but she has become a more rounded out character, largely due to Rita's positive influence. Thanks for these episodes.❤❤
I don't know why the photogtapher was getting riled up, he has been paid upfront like the florist and the caterers :/
Mavis's fluttering and dithering and "what shall I do" over Victor's proposal is just pathetic. If she was really in love with Derek and committed to marrying him, she'd know exactly what to do: tell Victor "no", "no thank you", "hard luck, you're too late", "get stuffed", "do one" - or any of various other alternatives. To me, it just shows she didn't love Derek (at the time), but just wanted to be married - first to ask, gets the bride. Or in this case, not - until later.

Often happens, sadly - you get a mother who smothers her son (often using him as a husband substitute) and makes the daughter's life a misery.

Quite simple really, she took after their mother, who was domineering and treated her daughter without indulgence, therefore she grew up fast. Her brother Derek went the other way, and became a spineless mummy's boy, because their mother raised him to be weak and dependent. Which was exactly how she wanted him!
