Cornwall This Fishing Life, Series 1, Episode 4

Cornwall: This Fishing Life ~ Series 1, Episode 4
Another Episode and another cracking portrayal of part of our industry we are fighting so hard to save.
All we can say to government & politicians is give us a chance.
Cornwall - indeed the whole of Britain - has some of the richest waters, some excellent fishermen & cracking communities.
Britain only receives 10% of Channel Cod, Whiting and Haddock quota among others, yet based on the predominance of catches in our waters it should be 60% when free of the CFP.
Then we will be no different to Norway, Iceland or Faroe - bestowed with complete, exclusive sovereign rights over all our waters and resources within our EEZ.
Fishing should thrive with taking back control, injecting huge wealth & the ability to husband our resources for generations to come.
This would give a huge adrenaline hit to coastal communities. Allowing them to proudly stand on their own two feet - preserving a unique way of life that we are close to losing in many areas.
Don't sell us out by surrendering Britain's fish a second time is all we ask for!
The EU's egregious demand that we sacrifice fishing access to trade is a hollow threat. The EU is highly dependent on British seafood exports. They will be even more if their fleet cannot plunder 60% of the fish from British waters that represents 1/3 of the EU fleets NE Atlantic catches.
The EU is also highly dependent on British financial services from the global powerhouse that is the City of London. The EU needs both our seafood and finance. Neither industry needs traded for the other.
We also say a huge well done to the Bulgarian chap for recognising what Brexit is really about. Not short term money or trade, but about freedom for a nation to set its own course for a better future. Take a bow Sir!

Hi Jo, this channel is awfully quiet now when we want to hear how Brexit worked out for the fishermen, after all they got bigger waters to harvest, do they get better incomes now? is it working out the way they expected or better. asking for a friend in Scandinavia. Not much about it in the news over there in times of COVID.

Any kind of commercial fishing should go back to hook and line fishing. No trawl nets, gill nets, seines, nothing but hook and line. Fishing vessels would cost a fraction, less fuel costs, fish would have a chance to grow larger, less throw-a way by-catch and higher quality product to the consumers so obviously prices would have to go up.

That's inflation for you mate. Time takes all away a resource can not sustain being robber for years without something happening at the other end. The world is hungry getting hungrier the more breeding the human race does the more it will lean on all resources of this world until nothing is left. Take a wild animal for example. If there were two in an enclosed area and they ran out of food what do you think they would do! Survive the only way they know how, by one killing the other thats how. At the rate the world is going that's exactly what will happen to man kid if nothing is done about it soon. Its sad to say but perhaps more epidemics we have the better of the ones that survive will have for surviel!

I have a lot of respect for these small fishermen. I hate those huge trawlers. They literally scrape and destroy the floor, the bottom of the sea. It are real floating factories. They only see PROFIT, and have NOT ONE BIT OF RESPECT FOR THE FUTURE GENERATIONS. Money. Money. Money... A dirty disease. Creature of all misery. And governments. How much they take, and scraping of us people hard work. If you sit behind a desk, or if you do manual labour, they'll take, and scrape to the bone. And if they would use it correctly, efficiently… Sooooo much waste of us people hard work. Disgusting. Anyway... Take care everyone!
