Cormac McCarthy, Suttree: A Homeless Man Looks In On A Younger Brother

One of many discoveries I made when I came to Knoxville, TN. was it was the hometown of Cormac McCarthy. While I loved his novels like No Country For Old Men and The Road, I kept coming across an obscure title from a novel McCarthy wrote in 1979 called Suttree; there was the Suttree Tavern on Gay Street downtown, and there was Suttree's Landing across the Tennessee River on the south side. I soon learned Suttree was a semi-autobiographical novel, set in Knoxville during the 1950s. Moreover, Suttree, the main character was a man who left his family behind and decided to spend his life fishing and living on the Tennessee River.
