Coriolis Forces - Brain Waves
The Coriolis effect happens when objects move on a rotating body, like air moving on the surface of the rotating Earth. It explains why hurricane spin counterclockwise in the Northern Hemisphere and why guns shooting projectiles north or south sometimes require a correction to hit their targets. The effect is described mathematically as the result of a vector cross product, but we can understand the basic idea with just some simple diagrams.

This was excellent in helping me understand the basic concept. I have been doing all of the advanced mechanics on it and haven't been able to picture it or explain it to myself and this has been super helpful for that. Thank you!

Sir, Please consider the question below. The one posted by d0rk3d, I'll just write it here I can understand how the flow from the North and South are affected by the Coriolis effect, but how is the flow from the East and West affected? Wouldn't the flow from the East and West be straight rather than curved since they aren't going in a direction that changes the length of their path around the Earth? Or were these lines shown curved to include the influence from the North and South flow? Thanks! This was a great video. Reply 1
