I picked up this model in a selection of Matchbox cars for restoration from eBay, and decided I wanted to do something special with it. Rob from Matchbox Garage contacted me to ask if I fancied doing a build-off, and we came up with 'The Saint' theme after releasing we both had models from the TV show fit for a makeover. Judge for yourselves who wins this particular battle...!
Hopefully this series will track my progress and aid me becoming a better modeller. There are plenty more videos to come and I have a big selection to choose from for future restorations. Please like and subscribe to be informed of new content first.

    Very good,considering what you had to work with. Just a hint. If a fine brush or masking dose not work for fine lines, you might carefully scrape or sand the fresh paint off of the trim. Then clear coat to protect the bare metal.

    That is the correct way to do it! No super small diameter paint brush could every get a straight line so scrap away the paint from the ridges and clear coat it!

    Hi Jason greetings from Puerto Rico I love the restoration and as a fellow restorer I will advise you to use Tamiya masking tape for trims which for my works very well . To avoid peeling of your paint stick the masking tape to something, the plastic Matt where you work will do the job. Keep doing good job love your work.

    Great job mate, looks mint. That Tamiya rattle can stuff is bad for pooling like that. I recommend a number of really thin coats in a hot room, like 23c plus, they should dry very fast at that temp so its not a long process but much more even.

    Yeah it’s not the first time it’s happened but I’ve started to realise it’s because I’m either spraying too close or laying too much paint down at a time. Multiple thin coats definitely work better. Cheers for the comment bud!

    hi jason, nice when your trying to paint lines like your trim. sign painter use i stick or rod or something you can brace the side of your hand. the way you were doing it must have made your hand feel like it was floating. the stick or rod will make the hand feel like its firm on something. just make sure the stick or rod doesnt slide. you might want to try that. its a sign painters trick. nice work. just love those volvos.

    Great work Jason, I like white on red, the combination works well. I think Rodger Moore would love to sport this Volvo around. I also wanted to invite you to a build off. There are currently 10 of us, the subject is"'shop trucks", and the due date is September 1st. Rules are pretty relaxed, whatever you would haul parts to your shop with or tow your latest restoration to the show with can be used. Stock or modified, a station wagon, sedan delivery, van or truck. And you can letter the truck and paint a shop logo on it or leave it plain. If you're intrested or have questions please ask me. Thanks.

    Just a side thing: try using masking tape to tape off parts of the car you don't want to paint over when your hand isn't steady. It certainly helps me with the smaller details. But otherwise this turned out better than the original. By miles. I always think the wheels are one of the key elements to making those small castings look realistic. You chose well with the Greenlight rims.

    Nice work Jason. While I agree that your first set of wheels was too big, I suspect this is a casting that is always going to be challenging in that regard due to the proportions being off relative to the actual car. Keep up the good work!

    @duygukayhanisaskank49155 жыл бұрын

    Hello Jason, I love what you've done with this Volvo. ESPECIALLY, NOT APPLYING a "saint" logo to the hood//bonnet. This Volvo P1800 is a popular classic car and one of my favorites. I've actually seen the original used in The Saint TV series. The Volvo in the TV series was actually the personal car of ( Sir ) Roger Moore. He owned it before doing the TV series and he drove it for several years. It's now been "factory" restored to 100% and presently owned by a collector. Some personal aspects of Mr. Moores' ownership have been retained during the extensive restoration. Never-the-less...PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE use a very-fine-tip brush and paint-over your attempts to accent the cars' chrome trim. Since these details are not "crisp" on the body castings, it's impossible to accent them well. The rest of your detailing & paintwork is excellent ...body, lights, red interior, etc....very well done. Respectfully, Ben

    They asked for an E Type for the show, Jaguar said no, so Roger Moore bought the Volvo himself! Better looking than the E Type in my opinion!

    Great job Jason, congratulations on reaching 1000 subscribers! The scale of the car looks problematic to get wheels that look in proportion to the body, neither were perfect but the second set did look better. I always liked the look of the P1800, I used to see a gold P1800ES (estate/wagon) regularly near where I was working 30 years ago.

    I have seen other restorers just sandpaper the paint off the edges on the body....then the car's body shows through as the chrome on the side. No need for a steady hand...just be careful when removing the paint on the ridges. You could mask off the body and just sandpaper the line you want.
