Córdoba or Cordoba (2024) is a city in Andalusia, Spain. The city is famous for its Mosque-Cathedral, the "Mezquita". Córdoba was an important city during Roman and Byzantine rule until it was conquered in the 8th century by Islamic forces from Northern Africa. In the 10th century it was the second largest city of Europe after Constantinople. The city was reconquered by Christian knights from the Crown of Castile in 1236. Today Córdoba is with a population of 325,000 the third largest city of Andalusia after Seville and Malaga. Some highlights of the city are the Cathedral, the Roman Bridge with the gate and the Tower, the Roman Temple and the Alcazar Museum.
