It got 65 episodes, like most cartoons in the 80's, because that was the required amount to be allowed to sell the series for syndication to the other networks.

@@Piledriver86 It could have at least had another 65 episodes (would be a total of 130 episodes), especially as we’d have gotten to see two of the cops drivers (hence their Hasbro figure counterparts were boxed with vehicles) - Roadblock and Heavyweight, and especially (of the crooks) [and was one of the carded figures in the Hasbro COPS toy line] Nightmare (the android). We could even have seen an additional appearance of Automated Police Enforcement Systems (one of the cops, and one of the carded figures in the Hasbro COPS toy line), who, finally, would have spoken (as, for some reason, he’s mute in his one and only appearance - ‘The Case of the High Iron Hoods’).

Death Metal, Well there’s few limits to how cruel humans can be when they apply themselves to Godlessness. Rape is kind of unimaginative. Think of all the shit Vlad the Impaler did. He’d have people impaled on stakes from their anus through their mouth, avoiding important organs so they’d take a long time to die, and post them out in the sun until they expired. He’d also cook up children and force their parents to eat them. The catholic inquisition comes to mind too. They had all manner of almost unthinkable torture devices they’d use on people; Iron maidens, the rack, that wheel thing they’d strap people too. I’m not trying to be morbid or edgy. I’m just saying there are levels of evil out there that never cross the minds of normal humans beings. I’m thankful I live in a place and time where such deeds can’t be paraded around in broad daylight without society coming against it. The world still has some good left in it.

+Aegis _"Well there’s few limits to how cruel humans can be when they apply themselves to Godlessness."_ A rather asinine statement, considering that more people have died for the name of "God" than for any other reason. The Abrahamic religions are especially guilty for bringing out the worst in humanity. Just look at the state of things in the US because of Christian dogma, and look at the shit that goes on in the Middle-East because of Islamic dogma. Consider all the crimes against humanity because an old book sanctioned such actions. ...so-called "holy crusades", unjust witch hunts, and the dehumanization of women, homosexuals and trans people. God is the bane of humanity.

Ahh, the 80s with its heavy-handed anti-drug messages. The character of Addictem, both in name and appearance, seems to have stumbled right out of a Dick Tracy strip. It is kind of funny that Big Boss has issues with drug dealing, considering the other crimes he does. But then again, I think it did fit the old Mafia code back in the day.

White it may come off as weird that the crime boss who once sent thugs to kill a hospitalized cop to be against drugs, I figure it makes an odd sort of sense. It's one thing to kill someone face to face or to send someone to do it. Even if it's with giant robot arms or some crazy murder machine it's done with an explicit purpose. Drugs however kill and destroy indirectly, often slowly and painfully. Rotting the body and mind until the person is like a shattered glass bottle barely able to hold together and harmful to everything and everyone around them. It's one thing to kill someone, it's another to kill who they are. Even if it may be a weird double standard and largely done out because of the anti-drug movement of the 80s, I feel it was still a good writing choice. Seeing Big Boss have limits to what he will stoop too and seeing him genuinely concerned for his otherwise idiotic relative when he was hospitalized because of drugs was very humanizing.

You know the issue that I have with this episode? It's not the anti-drug message; it's actually how if you look at it Addictum's actions are in a way not his fault. Yes, he is still a crook for selling drugs but it's Bezerko's fault for falling into his crate which Addictum didn't want to happen and you can see by his reaction he never intended Berserko to even get such an overdose. In a way, this makes Addictum a 'victim of circumstance' even though he's still doing something illegal. Everything in that scene happened by chance and bad luck and makes it feel like Addictim wasn't pushed hard enough as an actual and DANGEROUS crook. Everyone just happens to hate what he peddles, he looks creepy as hell but in the end he's the least threatening baddie the series has had and that's because he doesn't really do enough. I kind of wish that Addictum had done something a little more sinister after Big Boss had rejected him, something that would still result in Berzerko getting an OD and Boss having to team up with the COPS in order to get Addictium. Like maybe after BB rejects him he actually does set something up and make it look like Berzerko was the one who took the drug by choice only for BB to find out that Addictum had slipped it to his nephew with an intention to actually make him OD in revenge for BB not seeing him as a decent Crook and denying him money. BB would still have a good reason for the COPS to go after Addictum and his capture would feel a lot more deserved.

Both episodes feature Scumlord, the main villain, who I bet fans of James Bond Jr. even wish Hasbro made a figure of. Fortunately, I’ve seen him in all his other episode appearances - ‘the Beginning’, ‘Location - Danger’, ‘Mindfield’, ‘Avalanche Run’, ‘Barbella’s Big Attraction’, ‘Invaders from SCUM’, ‘Catching the Wave’ and ‘the Thing in the Ice’, and I’ve seen him in the James Bond Jr. comic ‘Homeward Bound’.

I know exactly how you feel - so do I, rather than ‘The Case of the Visiting Mother’ and especially ‘The Case of the Lost Boss’, when it was better, in this episode, to see even the crooks know what can kill you, hence side with the cops; what’s worse is ‘The Case of the Lost Boss’ even came *after* this episode. This is like two episodes of the 80s G1 Transformers cartoon - the movie and thereafter, in season 3’s ‘Ghost in the Machine’, when the Decepticons showed concern about the Autobots, regarding Unicron, who not even the Decepticons were safe from, and the G.I. Joe episode ‘The Greatest Evil’, when, likewise, even Cobra is aware that taking drugs can be fatal, hence saw eye to eye with G.I. Joe (I do think of the Headman being worse even than the Transylvania Pet Shop characters, as there could have been an anti-drug themed episode of said show, which could even have been based on Transylvania’s zero tolerance policy on drug dealing in real life). These mysteries, about this show, are still yet to be unsolved (and, unfortunately, might never be solved): why (of the cops, and was a carded figure, in the Hasbro toy line) Automated Police Enforcement Systems (whose lone appearance is in the episode ‘The Case of the High Iron Hoods’) never has lines why (another two of the cops, but both drivers, hence boxed in the Hasbro toy line, with vehicles) Roadblock and Heavyweight were omitted from the cartoon (meaning only two of the cops, who were drivers, hence boxed in the Hasbro toy line, with vehicles - Bullseye and Hardtop - were in the cartoon) [the crooks only had one driver, hence was boxed with a vehicle, in the Hasbro toy line - Turbo Tu-Tone] why Hasbro didn’t make a figure of (of the crooks) Squeeky Kleen, when he was a male (it’s understandable for Hasbro not to have made - two of the cops - Mainframe and Mirage, and two of the crooks - Miss Demeanour and Nightshade, when Hasbro didn’t want female figures in a boy’s toy line, but this issue leads to another mystery - of course, another one that might never be solved - in the G.I. Joe toy line, Hasbro made Scarlet, Cover Girl, the Baroness, Lady Jaye, Zarana and the last female - Jinx, Mattel made Teela, in the MOTU toy line, and LJN made Cheetara, in the ThunderCats toy line) [I’m aware Cover Girl was a driver, hence boxed with a vehicle, and I like how Hasbro made her with short red hair] why (yet another of the cops, and was a carded figure, in the Hasbro toy line) the figure of Taser had a moustache, when, in his only speaking role - ‘The Case of Big Boss’ Big Switch’, he was clean shaven most of all, why (one of the crooks, and was a carded figure, in the Hasbro toy line) Nightmare (the android) was left out of the cartoon I’m aware what it was like, for fans of this show, that they couldn’t have the entire team of the cops, and the entire team of the crooks.

If only mankind could watch these anti-drug episodes from long ago and realize where their modern drug addiction problems are getting them, an early grave is where they will be.

Why does Big Boss care so much that drugs kill yet he has dead police officer badges tied to his jacket? Doesn’t make any sense.

This episode was kind of scary. I can’t understand how people can get hooked on to drugs, alcohol, cigarettes all because of peer pressure or bad things that happen in family like divorce, physical abuse, sexual abuse, and then end up having to go to counseling or rehab to kick such habits only to fall of wagon and get right back into the habit again. I guess to cover up or mask the pain that they have been through.

Bravestarr did the antidrug theme in a bleak way which feels realistic and had the balls to kill off a young junkie to teach kids lessons not to mess with drugs or you will end up like the junkie

I wish Netflix can adapt this cartoon series into live action movie or series, or reboot this cartoon as well with more subjects, mature and dark matters like (including involvement of characters, their families and friends) : Gang war (with brotherhood, Romeo and Juliet tragedy elements), Siblings, relative or friends in opposite of law (reference to A Better Tomorrow), Corruption and bribery (politicians, business crimes, sports fixing), Undercover (take reference of The Departed, Hard Boiled, Infernal Affairs and Face/Off), Terrorism (hostage situation, bombing, blackmail, sabotage), Serial killer (reference to Joker, Scream), Loan shark, Cyber crime (hacking, scamming, cheating, reference to No More Bet), Police under attack in criminal building or slum (reference on The Raid and Dredd) , Station under attack (reference on Assault Of Precinct 13), Human trafficking (prostitution, human organs), Illegal activities (street racing, underground fighting, underground gambling), Illegal immigration, Assassination or random shooting (reference on La Femme Nikita, Day Of The Jackal or The Killer), Smuggling (drugs, firearms), Counterfeit trading (Piracy), Street Kids Violence, Riot or hooligans, Cults, Vigilante. Sometimes I have crazy ideas of having COPS crossover with the following: Robocop, Judge Dredd, Batman Of The Future, Iron Man, Terminator, Predator, Ghost In The Shell or any cyberpunk franchise.

Too bad there was no crossover with other cartoons for this show in the 80s. It would have been cool if Robocop made a guest appearance on this show or Batman Beyond.

Actually, there was an anti-drug PSA ep. in the 1st season of "Batman Beyond", w/ those "Slappers". Remember?? I think the ep. was called: "The Winning Edge", featuring Bane.
