pocket83 No no, your videos arent misleading and I did (almost) get the end results that I wanted. The only problem is that I'm not as precise as you at anything. And a lot of your viewers are probably not as skilled as you. The only way you could help me is if you could somehow transfer your skills over to me. Which is probably impossible. I guess I'll just have to train more, a lot more.

It is amazing that you use the same materials over and over and it results in something completely different. Although I don't care for the actual object in this case. (That is not comparable to woodworking which is essential just making differently shaped boxes) The right one is trying to hard with the grain, more like an artists interpretation

Very nicely made, especially as it's made from "reclaimed" materials haha. If I were to make it I'd perhaps use some copper sheet in place of the plastic for the vanes, but I get that's not really the point, unless you happen to have something with copper plates in it you're recycling. Simple but most useful

I made my mom some stained glass hummingbirds and hung them just like that in one of her trees! Glass and metal are awesome. I just should of saved them till now cuz I've just took a Calc 2 final today, been swamped with studying for that beast. But I still got till Sunday! I have these little glas jewels, might figure out something to do with those.

Projects like these make me feel like I'm not crazy for hording so many wires.

(please forgive my english wrighting, it is not the best)..... im a person that likes to build stuff and create new things.. but not only that, i like making it look good as well as having a purpouse and making it actually work, which for me is just more fun, almost like a puzzle.. so i really enjoy finding other people with that same hobby & i really apreciate when they find time to teach others what they have learned over the years instead of keeping the knowledge to themselves... what really amazed me was the way that you looked at a couple of materials around the house, got an idea and you where able to put together this beautiful decoration in such a simple way too! everything was clearly demonstrated without a word being said & not alot of people can pull that off without confusing the viewers... i can be 100% certain when i say that you have an amazing talent and your a really inteligent guy! (and i dont even know you)! here you have a new subscriber for sure! which probably doesnt mean that much to you but your knowledge and expertees meens alot to me and i look forward to seeing more videos like this from you.. im curiouse to know everything thats inside that head of yours :D haha p.s. im from Puerto Rico and am currently living here now! idk where YOUR from but you can be 100% sure that your work is apreciated even in this little island in the carabean ;) will definetly share this video..

I'm all the way up here in Pennsylvania, and I think it's great to imagine this: I had a simple idea for a little spinning trinket, and then I showed others how I made it... and now, maybe somewhere in the Caribbean, one just like it is spinning in the breeze! It's nice to know that so far away, people can still have such similar likes- thanks for letting me know that.

Awesome video as always! I think I might have added a fishing barrel swivel between the line and the first section of copper though, that way it would keep spinning in the same direction and not need to unwind... Agree with all the others who have mentioned it, your editing skills are really getting better and/or more impressive with each video, and they were never bad! Keep up the great vids man, we'll keep watching and showin' the love. Also...Right is my guess...

Ryan Smith Great minds think alike! I had the same thought, and then I went to my tackle-box: there were no swivels. It turned out okay though, because the spinning builds a reserve (potential) energy. There are four on the back porch presently, and they seem to stay in motion with only the slightest breeze. With several of them together, I guess it would look pretty cool when they were all spinning in different directions...one way with the wind, then against it as they unwind. Would love to have about 100 of these hanging from the branches on the trees in my front yard...I love seeing large numbers of the same thing together...always been a weird quirk of mine.

Looks great! I love the look of copper, and a fun thing for Mother's Day. I guess the one on the left. Also, the picture looks like it was taken upside down. (Your videos are getting so good, your editing is tight!)

The only problem with this is the use of milk-jug plastic which is not UV stable and will break-down over time if left in the sun. Otherwise, looks great! Very innovative.

The diamond on the tape measure is the metric stud spacing.

+pocket83 I stand corrected, it is not metric, I had to look it up again as I didn't think it had anything to do with skipping one stud as stated in your description. Yet is has been a few years since I have done any serious specifications for building construction. It is in fact the alternate spacing that is allowed when using engineered floor trusses. The engineered floor truss usually has a flat wise 2 X 4 for the top member offering 3 1/2 inches of support compared to the standard 1 1/2 inch face of the nominal 2 X 4 floor joist. There is 14 1/2" span of floor sheathing in standard joist construction. Using the 19 1/4" spacing with a 2 X 4 flat wise there is 15 3/4" unsupported. With modern plywood or OSB the 1 1/4" difference is insignificant. One should check local building codes to see if this non-standard spacing meets codes.

69adrummer Irreconcilable differences. She advocates Tao, and I'm on the side of Pi. Also, she ignores virtually all comments, which I find irresponsible. Don't get me wrong- I still think she is a wonderful creature, but I don't expect that we will ever exchange ideas. I'm too small potatoes, anyhow; there are much more important people out there for her to collaborate with. Flattering suggestion, though. BTW, check out her dad, George. He has a YT channel too, and interest wise, he is very similar to me. Had I not quit the math, I think I would have ended up like him. Today I learned I've been cutting monofilament fishing line the hard way my entire life.

Is there a ratio between the size of the marble ( I only have a small one ), the length of the wire and the diameter of the prop? I don't drink milk so I'm going to try flattening a piece of beer can aluminum to make the prop.

Nicholas Alderman yeah but think about this the shadow could be painted on where as the shadow being cast onto the table can't be so the one on the left is more possible i think because it has dark sides that match the shadow.

finster101 As you can probably imagine, I've made mom lots of novel things in my life, so I think that she _expects_ me to create such; less would be a let-down, I suppose. About the camera, there is already a (recent) video about that, but I use Movie Maker for the editing.

easyer way of removing isolation: strip the 2 ends down clamp on of them in the vise pull on the other one real hard the increased lenght means a decrease in width so the isolation can be pulled away easily

I'm gonna go with left. I bet the back 'cube' is not actually separate from the others or something.

Where do you find these copper wire scraps and what’s the gauge on them?

When you are making several... things (like in this project) do you film the creation of the first one, or make it off camera and film the second/third try?

Zeke Totally depends on the project. If I decide to make it a video, I start filming once I have enough of the problems worked out that I am fairly certain it won't end in failure. This video was made after two or three prototypes, all made different ways. The "Truncated icosahedron puzzle" was made without making one first; I filmed along the way, because it was so complicated. The second format doesn't always work out, so I have a folder full of unfinished videos.

I made the hole in the flower spinning part to big and now it doesn't spin nicely, i wire wrapped above and below the plastic flower but it still doesn't spin nicely

Copper is a gorgeous metal but keep in mind it is soft and will stretch out over time. Don't add any weight to hook.

Not only is this a neat project but your video should be shown in geometry classes to show that you can have fun with math...algebra...not so much, LOL
