Tons of copper and aluminum to be found in this APC Switch. This was a lot of fun to look inside.

Nice harvest! You better melt that copper in beautifull ingots 😍

I wish I had more time on the recording day for the melt. I had so much work to get done moving stuff around that I just went with the tear down. I will do a quick follow up video for this with the ingots...

The big block is a "contactor" - aka. a Big Boy Relay. The little blocks look like IGBT's, but they're thyristor modules - aka. solid-state switch. And the plate on them is copper. The contactor is worth $$$$ to right person, but being an out-of-production part, I doubt there are many takers. The switches were ~300$ new, but they're just as old as the rest of the stuff... likely worth more for the copper. (And at 8lbs, that "aluminum" block isn't aluminum. Might be aluminum fins.)

All good information. Thank you. I will have to see what that heat sink is if it is not aluminum.

That makes sense. That are really useful as insulators.
