Copper Chef Review ~ 9 Month Follow-Up

    Thank you for posting various follow-ups over time. I got pulled into the Copper Chef "hype" and was EXTREMELY disappointed just at the first use. First, I expected the pans to be heavier and more substantial-feeling given their price. I did a sauce in the smaller fry pan and it didn't stick but cooked too fast. Then, when I tried using the XL pot to deep fry some homemade chicken tenders, it took 40 minutes for the oil to get up to 350 degrees! So, I agree with your commentary that deep frying and boiling are not the best uses for these pans. I do, however, love the portable induction cooktop. I have used the cooktop with both enameled cast iron and stainless steel pots with no problem. Given the cost of the cooktop by itself, I still feel I got a good deal for the SET, even though the Copper Chef pots themselves are temperamental and mediocre performance-wise. Please do a 1 year update if you can! Thanks so much!

    Glad you enjoyed. I wouldn't say I was disappointed but I learned these pans have some shortcomings. I do like the non-stickiness(lol) but I always feel the need to be gentle with them - which can get annoying. I have gotten to where I don't even bother trying to boil with these pans. I guess tho I still like them. :) The induction cooktop is great. Uses less power and I like that it will hold a temp for as long as you want. I've used stainless and cast iron on it as well with no problems. Thanks again and glad you enjoyed the video. All the best :)

    I finally got myself an induction cook top and I absolutely love it. Main reason: cats. I have rude, misbehaved, self entitled and absolutely adorable cats that are allowed to do whatever they want, stove has always been a problem for me. Now I don't have to worry anymore. As always, thanks for sharing. Nice to hear your honest opinion.

    I bought a set of these pans about two years ago. I have no real complaints but will say that they are thin and you can't bang them around too much. I've used the deep square pan for everything from meatloaf to french fries. Like mentioned in this vid, they don't boil water well, for some reason they take forever to get a boil going and have trouble regaining a rolling boil after you add something into the water. They do have to be seasoned, follow the directions for seasoning and they will work pretty much as claimed. You will have to reseason them from time to time. When it comes to washing them, you have to sort of treat these like cast iron pans. If you wash them with dish soap, you will have to re-season them after every washing. I simply wipe them out with a paper towel. If something is stuck, or the pan appears stained, simply use a damp towel to wipe the pan clean. Staining is a sign that they need to be re-seasoned. I use mine on an electric stove, so the bottoms are a bit scratched up from old burners but I found that some stainless steel polish will clean up the bottom ring quite nicely with little effort. I find the easiest way to clean these up is to wipe them dry while they are still warm.

    When things stick to the bottom (from meats) of the pan you can deglaze with a cold liquid, white wine, pineapple juice, heavy whipping cream, and make a sauce out of it. When it sticks, the stuff left is called pan fond , that is where all the flavor is. It should all come up with a cold liquid.

    SilverWolf25 They're very fast with the right pans on board but you have to be a bit careful with sizes. The pot can't be too small or too big. If the diameter of the BASE (not sides necessarily ) exceeds a certain width the magnetic field won't work, same if it's a teeny milk pan because of that coil circle in the dead centre. There's a bit of a learning curve but they are very handy, safer than the open flame camping alternatives for sure. They are brilliant for batch Jam & Marmalade making because you can maintain a good strong rolling boil and stop for testing (for a set) instantly.

    Just a couple of days ago I passed a display of these in the grocery store and thought that I needed to ask you about them. I think from your review, I will stick to the pans that I have now. It will not be that difficult to transfer them back and forth to an RV when and if I ever find one.....hahahhahah

    Just in case I ever get a portable induction burner to use at home sometime in the future -- which version of the Nuwave burner are you using with the Copper Chef pans? I wonder if a Copper Chef XL pan (don't have one yet, but maybe eventually) would fit on that size Nuwave burner, or if a larger burner would be preferable?

    I really like your style of review as you point out good & bad. what I found with mine was what the induction plate on the bottom heats up beneith the copper pan and focuses 90% of the heat in the middle. when I fry bacon the part that touches the sides hardly cooks at all. I have to keep moving the bacon around so that each piece gets even cooking. If you know a trick to solve that problem please let me know. Also when boiling the induction plate makes the center of the water boil first but not the edges. (on induction cooktop) So that's why for boiling I use a steel pan. The non stick is great and cleanup is easy. Oh and please share how to cook an omlet because i can't get the sides to cook on the induction cooktop in the copper pan so an omlet is out of the question. I'll search your other videos in case you already made an omlet there. thank you for sharing what you know about copper chef!

    I've subscribed to your channel for almost a year now. I was watching one of your older videos and I say for the first time that you actually have a propane stove in your RV. I thought your class B must have come without a propane stove! Do you use it anymore? I haven't seen it before.

  • @WanderDano

    @WanderDano

    7 жыл бұрын

    Yeah I have a propane stove. lol But you are right I so very rarely use it. If I have electricity I use that instead of wasting my propane - I use it every now and then when I dry camp but also when I dry I tend to just use the grill. If I stop just to mainly sleep and need to eat I will use it, figured that was even boring for me so I have probably only shown that once or twice. I have watched people use their RV propane stove while in a campground and NEVER understood that. lol

    All “non-stick” pans do their job if you are careful and don’t use metal to stir. I agree with the “some things stick”. Meats stick, no matter how low you cook on. I personally have the short square and the med round pans.

    I don't have an induction cooktop at home, but I do have a smoothtop electric range. I've been using hard-anodized aluminum pots and pans (which wouldn't work on your induction burner) on my stovetop for some years (my current set is Kitchenaid brand). I find the infomercial paeans to the advantages of the square deep-dish pan persuasive, but it sounds like you're saying that the Copper Chef cookware wouldn't be superior to what I already have unless I were looking for induction-safe cookware.

  • @WanderDano

    @WanderDano

    Will you know you got a really good video and you've got a really good points but the thing is people have to know how to cook I don't care what kind of pan you use if you let something cook too long and you burn it it's going to stick I have got the Gotham steel ceramic copper pans with the titanium in it I guess and they my pens work absolutely great but then again if I was to burn something and it like an egg it's going to stick chances are if you throw cheese in it and you burn it it may stick but a lot of these guys will crack an egg and throw it in it burn it and then they can't get it to move around the pan because it burn and it sticks so I think if you use not I don't use anything metal in my pants cuz I try to take care of mine as well and as long as you use it right they should last a long time I'm really happy with mine

    I bought 2 CopperChef skillets. They were the worst pans I've ever owned! The "non stick" lasted only a couple of uses and have since become the STICKIEST pans ever - more stickier than un-seasoned carbon steel! .....Literally!. i never used anything abrasive to cook with or clean with, nor have I used extreme heat. The only thing CopperChef cookware is good for is taking up space in a landfil!!
