I really needed to hear this. Iam a freshman in college and was recently diagnosed with Bi Polar Disorder and I've been through soo much of the same things you've said. I was a very good student in highschool and when i got to college for some reason everything changed it just fell apart and i didnt know why. so i decided to see someone about it and short after the doctor diagnosed me. Its nice to see i am not the only one struggling with this and I am not alone. Thank you so very much for this.

This reminds me of how it was when I got diagnosed in college. I was a high-acheiving student and to realize that I now had all of these limitations gave me a sort of identity crisis on top of everything else. If Andrew reads the comments, I am curious to know how he is doing now.

It's definitely not too late. When I was diagnosed, I had been like Andrew. I was involved in school activities, different organizations, and I was doing well in school. I had to see a counselor, and finally after a few months I was able to get in with the psych. for medication. But before I could get the medication, my grades had slipped dramatically and I had to move back home and withdraw from school. After about four months of just trying to cope with the medication and my disorder,

Right on, Andrew - totally identified with what you said. You sound like a very smart guy who has it all together, so well done on keeping up appearances! I know you'll do well.

"Keeping up appearances" is ridiculous. That doesn't help anyone learn or succeed in authentic way. I agree with the woman below who isn't on meds and allows her friends to help her succeed without having to hide or dull herself with meds. Meds are not a bad thing in many cases, but they are certainly not always the answer to the problems either.

i was diagnosed for a long time i have achieve so much and i hate when people beat me, and i do not care, yeah i take these meds, and i am sick of it. i am a sophormore at skyline college and i am almost done, it takes awhile to adjust my brain, but the meds work. i was a first freshmen to finish my semester with decent grades. This disability is serious i had more than 4 episodes as a teenager but overall i can fight this and learn how to beat this thank you.

I have finished my first semester. The docs label it Bipolar disorder type 1, however I just know what I go through. Labels meaning nothing compared to living with what I do.

@jm227307 I'm able to move back to my school and live in an apartment with two of my friends. Hopefully, I'll be able to finish college without too many interruptions. Don't think it's too late to finish. And don't think this disorder can limit you, because you can be successful with the proper help. Look at Drew Barrymore and Patty Dukes, that singer from Blue October, they've lived with dipolar and have been able to achieve their dreams.

How do you pick up the pieces after messing up? I left school...literally just walked out the building and never came back. Now that I feel ok, I want to try again but is it too late?
