No, you don't need to. We only use Camden for chlorine and chloramine naturalization. If you boil the water before using it , it should remove bacteria and work for a great tasting beer.

Sounds great! I found that when I came home from work I would have a pint of this beer (by the way tasted great) that night I would wake up around three in the morning wide awake. So I have been reluctant make it again.

Hi Pierre, love your channel! Just wanted to ask how many litres did you end up at with this brew? I'm going to do a Cooper's Stout (without coffee) in a couple weeks, just wanted to know how many litres you'd recommend. Thanks!

I aimed for 23 litres off memory. I believe I got to it wit a little left over for bottling. Aged it for almost 6 months, as it aged it got better and better. Kept me awake though.

Hi Pierre, tried this but used the Coopers Ruby Porter instead. I found the coffee flavour was a little too full-on with 200g of coffee beans. Tasted after 7 days carbonating in bottles. Did you find it diminished with further conditioning?

I am a big coffee drinker so I felt it was a great level of potency. The Brew mellowed over time and became very nice after about 1 year. I will doing another one soon.

I've recently made something similar & added 170gm of coffee beans which is all I had on hand. Do the beans have to be removed after 7 days? What would the effect on flavour be if they are left in till end of fermentation?

I left mine in all the way through, I didn't find it affects the final product at all. I however have a new perspective after making the stout, I found that the caffeine was a problem as I really enjoyed it before bed and kept waking at 3am. Some brewers say to steep the beans in hot water and just add that before fermenting it.

I actually used the yeast that came with the Coopers Stout. This beer lasted me about 8 months and tasted great till the end. Thanks for asking. Pierre
