I'm 74. I'm raising my 5th Chow. He is 8. So far past Chows have lived 13, 15 and 16 years with 1 passing at 5 from a heart attack. I hope my current Chow will be around at least another 8 years. Hopefully I'll have enough life left in me to raise one more. There is nothing like a Chow. The intelligence and the personality is beyond compare. When a Chow loves you it simply is overwhelming and comforting. We walked 5 miles everyday and I cook a warm dinner for him every night. He is 6 inches taller than standard at the withers and weighs 120#. He's not fat. He's one large muscle. He is a rough coat with a mane that extends to his shoulders. He's the largest Chow I've had. People have no idea what they are missing without a Chow Chow
