Damn this was a good conversation. Mike is on to something when he says Kiss has the skillet & capabilities of making a classic Paid In Full type album. It ain't about comparing Kiss to Rakim but if production wise and sonically if he had more traditional boom bap new york style production, that would be catering to Kiss' strengths. I'd be cool with just a mixtape of Kiss rapping over the Paid In Full beats

another question to ask is whether the lack of writing is also reflected in the lack of depth in the lyrics of BIG and HOV? you don't find that lack of depth in the lyrics of NAS and PAC, which is why their catalogs have more replay value and why HOV's catalog for instance hasn't aged well at all. That depth of poetic lyrical discourse is why NAS and PAC can be studied at universities with music that still resonates outside in the streets or at a family BBQ. Whereas most of HOV's relevance as an eMCee can only be experienced at a club.

The truth is, no matter how great Jay, Big, Wayne and a bunch of the artist who don't write down are, they won't be studied for what they're saying. Maybe how they're saying it, but Def not for what they're saying. Once you get away from the punches, there's minimal substance there. And the way the words break down on paper aren't as impressive. It's just impressive in the creative sense of how they do it.

“If your first take was great… try a second one” Indeed Mike. As somebody that knows the recording process very well due to me being a former recording artist/rapper, I understand exactly what you are saying. True I’m no Jay but I understand the process of recording a record. Jay and Pac made me believe that if you could get it out on that first take then that’s top tier level of recording. So I worked with engineers that would be good with that first take as long as I’m good with it. Then I worked with an engineer that was a perfectionist. From the original take to my double take all the way to my adlib placement, and the record turned out better than those records. Imo engineers like that are top tier because they’re not afraid to let the artist know that it sounds cool but it could be better. I don’t even think that Jay himself is exempt from that (as great as his first takes have been). There’s always room for improvement for any artist

Plus Nas rhymes were also literally written on the cassette with the extra song on IWW

NY needs a Paid in Full or a Made You look..Party Up...pump it up.... a lyrical Jam something with energy ..a beat over 90 bpm for christ sake. And you need alot of bottom to compete with the drill beats...the kids are spitting over some crazy 808s.

People love Jadakiss. I get it. However we can't ignore the lack of resume. Outside of jumping on OTHER people's classic songs (they picked the beats, came up with the topic and possibly the hooks) Kiss has nothing to show for his talents. Never made a classic album neither critically or commercially. Never had a #1 song period. Never been the best rapper alive for a single year. He hasn't shaped anything when it comes to the direction of hip hop even when you limit it to New York. Just like Carmelo Anthony he has the ability to outshine a Lebron, a Kobe, a Durant on any given night but CAN'T PUT TOGETHER AN MVP SEASON. Can't GET to the finals let alone win it. You talk about consistency but that's actually WHY he's not top ten. He has consistently underachieved. Consistently he puts out middle of the pack albums, good but not great singles. Without the features he's basically like AZ. A fan favorite who actually doesn't quite measure up.

Doe or die and Aziatic are personal classics for me but I can’t sell that to the masses like an Illmatic. But back to Jada. That Carmelo Anthony analogy was 🎯

This is a wonderful analogy of one of my favorite MCs Jadakiss! He has so much potential to do more, take it to Top 10 of all-time, you can see it, you can hear it, you can feel it, but for some reason he falls in that Andre 3000 category of Top Lyricist MC with no Solo Classic.

The first album Jadakiss dropped , was in constantly rotation In New York city by 2001 , the album itself is pretty dope . Ans his second one was 🔥 as well. I've been listening to Doom since he went by the name Zev Love X. And even though I liked him st the time. I can't say I can play a whole album by Doom and enjoy it completely like I do with Jadakiss, Jada is music and style is more accessible to my ears and the masses, just check his first album track by track ans you'll see what I'm talking about. Jada is also more versatile. So no my friend, in my book. Jada is better. Case closed
