I just realized, this gun channel has some very good camera work. Hickock Sr. of course is great, but John deserves a shout out for sure, he really gets the right angle at the right time. As a viewer, I feel like I'm getting the best possible demo for how the gun shoots, aims, etc. Overall great job team Hickock, keep up the good work!

Absolutely right. Major props to junior, I mean John. You know this is also a major factor in the feel of the show in that I really feel like I'm there on the range with him. I think that's what we all love about this channel, aside from Hickok45's great sense of humor and overall personality, of course. I always feel like I'm just enjoying a day at the range with my buddy. Life is good. :)

Funny thing, the Anti-Gun crowd thinks easy ordering means anyone can legally buy a firearm. They ignore that an FFL must be on file to establish a sale between a licensed manufacturer and a licensed gun dealer, so you pay for the gun, and the transfer between FFLs occurs, then the end buyer must pass a background check and inscribe a 4473 form and a few other forms etc. Prohibited persons, felons, cannot legally purchase or own or possess firearms.
@45auto82

@@carminemurray6624 So true! I happen to live in Texas and have had my CHL permit since 1995, so it serves as a replacement for the NICs check, but the firearm still must be shipped from and to an FFL and I must still fill out the BATFE form 4473 in order to take possession. However, I’ve bought so many guns this process is no biggy to me. I shoot my Coonan .357 with magnum, full-power Handloads (1,450 fps 125 Grain Sierra Soft Points) at the range and it is so satisfying, I Fire it much more often than any of my 5 other .357’s. It’s just a hoot and draws lots of range comments and attn. Most fun I had since the pig ate my little sister! 😎🥸🤩

long live the .357 magnum
I learned all about these pistols quite some time ago. I always wanted one, but they were just too expensive at the time, I believe around $3000. I've always liked the 1911, and currently have two. But the idea of a more powerful 1911 has always appealed to me. These were not only more powerful, but were an engineering masterpiece. While still based on the basic 1911 design, a LOT of things were changed in order to use the .357 magnum cartridge. It is longer and has a rim. It is also more powerful than a .45 ACP, and required the gun be made stronger. Amazingly they still used a cast frame. I would have preferred a forged frame. The trigger was different, they have an external extractor, the magazine is different, and the scale of pretty much all the parts is different. I believe they went out of business in 2018. But since the design exists, I wish another company would start making these. Yes they would be expensive, but now I would probably be able to afford one.

Shot mine for the first time today. I was stunned on how it tames the round. Amazing mod off the 1911 platform to handle the .357. Highly recommended for the range or novelty enthusiast. Thx Hickok for all the great vids!!!
Enjoyed the review, a good mix of specs & common sense. Great job John on the video production too.
I know I'm reeeaaally late to the party on this one (and I apologize retroactively for the super-long comment), but HOLY COW, the Coonan! I worked at a gun store from the late 80's to the early 90's, and stared at one of these in the display case for months. I couldn't believe no one bought it, so finally I did, and LOVED it..!! There were stories of issues with them, which is why I think people gawked at it every day, always asking to handle it, but no one taking the plunge. The price might've had something to do with it, plus Para-Ordnance had just recently released their hi-cap 1911 frame kits (full pistols came later), so a lot attention was on those among the 1911-ers, leaving the Coonan to flounder as a curiosity. I shot the hell out of it, and it never once failed to function, and along with my trusty Ruger GP100 with the 6-inch full underlug barrel and target sites, I had two of the best .357 Magnums money could buy, as far as I was concerned... And being a woodworker, I made a new set of grips out of jet black fretboard ebony, on which I did some unusual sorta "checkering", roughly 8 Lpi, with the vertical serrations progressively angled (narrower at the top, wider at the bottom) so they were parallel with the front and back edges of the vaguely trapezoidal grip shape, and the horizontal serrations also progressively spaced, getting further apart as they went lower on the grip, to match the vertical ones and maintain the approximately square shape of the 'checks', each of which had a little circular hollow, or divot, in the middle. Also there was a nickel-sized stainless circle with '357' in the middle of the left grip, and 'MAG' on the right one, and stainless Torx grip screws. They came out really nice, and I actually made several similar sets for friends, all ebony, who wanted custom grips for their various 1911's. One last thing I loved on the Coonan, was the stock extended slide and safety levers, the way they almost meet over the plunger tube, very cool touch. I put better sights and a beavertail grip safety on it, along with an extended mag release, cos of that long reach from those stretched out grips. Damn... Yet another gun I really, really regret selling, along with the GP100, a P7 M13, a 96D Centurion, a 10mm Delta, a Nite-Tac LDA, on and on... If I had a nickel....
1911 .357 look just like an 45 in Hickoks hands...

This firearm is very rare! Perfect for conceal carry.
I like his way of presentation with solid voice which suits to firing arms. Pistols, revolvers etc. are so nice to see as handy to use. Most lovely thing to know, these are old-school fire arms.

I watch you all the time I can see you've been shooting for a while on target

Wow! I did not know that .357 was developed in 1935! First time head about that cartridge was in the 70's and the Colt Python.
@acidwizzardbastard
5 жыл бұрын
Was developed to punch through automobile doors and the like at the time. It was also partly a product of people like Elmer Keith who would hot rod the .38 Speial and .44 Special rounds. Elmer Keith is also a big reason why .44 Magnum exists. The .38 Super is a semi-auto counterpart, being a very hot loading of .38 ACP, but the .357 took the spotlight back then.
I'm always impressed that you never miss a target. I have to know, "do you sleep with those things"?
I bought a compact about a year ago. Absolutley love it.
this legend hits every target
Being from the uk so I've never fired a real firearm your vids are amazing these handguns are works of art. I'd love to have a day there haha
Owned two of the Coonan Model B's back in the mid 80s-2000. 8 shot magazines back then and open carried it in Kentucky before they passed their concealed carry. Would feed but not cycle .38 SPL 148 gr WC ammo. Used to shoot it in ISPC in middle Tennessee back then too. Trimmer and lighter then the Desert Eagle, you can carry it! Lots of semi auto handguns chambered for .22LR which is rimmed also.
That is awesome! I think I still have the magazine in my collection of that pistol , with it on the cover, in my collection of gun magazines! 😊👍👍
You make it looks so easy..thanks ❤

I’m biased against the 357 mag….. LOUD beast. Does have me curious about it in the 357 in the 1911. That would certainly be a better defense round against a bear than the short brass pistol calibers.
Always a nice collection of guns.
Ed's accuracy; wow!!! Life is good...
A fascinating gun, matching the ultimate proven combat cartridge with the classic John Browning design. Personally I prefer the striker fire for dependability, however this mating seems to make better sense than the likes of a Desert Eagle. If there was one 1911 pistol cartridge combo I feel I could trust my life would it would be this one for sure. Reputation is well deserved. Bravo to Buds Gun Shop for bringing this masterpiece to this channel.
Dear santa...
I really love watching your videos
Hickok, that 1911 should be pointed off of the prow of a naval destroyer, geez man that frame is beautiful. What a monster round. I love it
when i was active in the service i used .357 magnum ( revolver ) as my secondary carry gun as all my peers uses .45 cal and 9mm as theirs..and i love the sounds of my gun when were firing as different from the others..good ol days..btw im using .40 cal now as my choice of defense cartridge as a civilian citizen.
i love his reaction to those beastly rounds haha such a boss, the 1911 packs a punch no matter what you load

As much as any other handgun I guess? 1911s fire the same ammo as every other gun.

@@codyallen2838 did you ever find out that not all guns fire the same cartridge?

@@JoeKurr5 Now I'm never one to get upset at someone for being confused so I'll just clarify for you. The original commenter said that "the 1911 packs a punch no matter what you load". Implying, intentionally or not, that the 1911 itself has something to do with how powerful the cartridge is. Which of course it does not, as I said in my reply, it loads the same ammo as everything else. A 45acp or 9mm is not more powerful coming out of a 1911 than it is any other gun with the same length barrel. I've been silhouette shooting for around 12 years and have owned guns since the 90s. So yes to your question, I am aware. Though you'll see a slight velocity loss when firing a round from a revolver than you would with that same round in a semi-auto.
GEEZ. This grandpa is BOLD. No mercy for any target.
great info, thanks
The dude is a good shot!
