  • @jimibreeze

    Yes once you drain all the old coolant. Remove the thermostat and open the heater valve to HOT, this allows the water to flow through the entire system.

    Question my 08 ran fine on just water now its gonna be 20° tonight so I pulled bottom radiator hose to empty water then added ¾of a gallon of 50/50 then started it an now its over heating I really thought my truck held 2 gal. But it won't take any help please

  • @jimibreeze

    CAREFUL: water will freeze in the engine block. I would try to get as much water out as you can, *measure how much water you collected (include estimate of what may have spilled on the ground). Then at least add 50/50 mix. and run the engine to operating temp.

    A quick easy method to drain the coolant would be to remove the lower radiator hose and catch the coolant into a container.

    I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado 4.3 v6 and wanted to change my coolant there is still coolant inside the tank but I unscrew the cap off the tank put a drain pan under and unscrewed the screw from the radiator and no coolant drained but I looked back at the coolant tank and some coolant was gone what could this be?

  • @jimibreeze

    Sounds like your coolant level was low to begin with. When you re-fill make sure you top off to the capacity for your engine. The owners manual should specify the capacities for your truck.

    Does Air not get into the system? Any bleeding of any sort?

  • @jimibreeze

    @jimibreeze

    Жыл бұрын

    Any trapped air bleeds into the fill tank. That's why its important to start and run the motor until hot, shut down - let it cool, then re start and let the engine heat up again. Just cycle through a few times and all the air will bleed into the fill tank.

    Just think of it this way... After you drained the coolant, the coolant passages, hoses, and radiator are empty of fluid. When you begin to refill the system, the fluid is displacing the air, the air rises to the top of the system (your fill tank). That cycle of cold start and letting the engine get to operating temp, then shut down and cool again - that is how the air escapes and why you must add coolant until full cold is reached.

    Too Funny.... "Avoid spilling this toxic fluid on the ground" just as you show how much you were spilling everywhere outside of your little pan. The biggest concern with spilling engine coolant is that it is sweet(and deadly) and very attractive to dogs and any other animals strolling around the neighborhood.....

    Something a friend recommended to me years ago when you're doing this and spill coolant on the ground, or if you find you have a leak, add some soap to the water that you the spill with. Dish soap will do. So as soon as they get one lick that'll be enough. It won't want it anymore because of the soap.
