This video features her Signature Texture Plate - Trinity Claddagh & Tree of Life. Wanaree's texture plates are original hand-drafted, finely detailed designs for metal clay, polymer clay and paper crafts. These natural gum rubber texture plates are an invaluable addition to your studio. This is the fifth video in a series of six illustrating each individual texture plate.
What can give jewelry a masculine flare? Celtic design. Check out Wanaree's latest video as she takes her own celtic designs and creates this beautiful mens ring.

    I've used the plastic bag technique with PMC for years, in fact I always used it when cake decorating many moons ago: interesting to see someone else doing it! The impression mat is really lovely. Thank you for sharing.

    Excellent video, thanks! Question: can the ring pellet be fired on it's end instead of sitting it on the ring side in the alumina hydrate?

    Good question! I thought the same thing. Yes, the ring pellet can be fired on it's end on an open shelf, without the alumina hydrate.

    Great video. I love all my Cool Tools products. Is it OK to wrap dissolvable pellets as well as reusable ceramic pellets with regular masking tape & fire them in a kiln? I'm using bronze PMC. Also how many sizes bigger should I make a ring to allow for the shrinkage. And lastly (sorry for all the questions). Is it OK to not use any ring pellets & just fire on a mesh stand? Thank you

  • @cooltoolsvideos

    @cooltoolsvideos

    Hello, if you fire your pellets with masking tape, the masking tape would burn out in the kiln. For information on how to size your ring that will be fired using our ring sizers, I recommend our instructions which can be found here: cooltools.us/v/vspfiles/assets/images/Product-RingSizerInstructions2016.pdf Yes, it is okay to not use any ring sizers; however, you will need to be thorough with sizing. Hope this helps, if you have any questions please feel free to reach out to us at sales@cooltools.us or 888.478.5060. We are always happy to help!

    I really like your tutorials! I have some clay that I’ve had for about 4 years. Silver, copper, bronze! I’ve never opened them! I’ve only used my Kiln for glass work! I think this is the reason why I haven’t used the clay I don’t know how to enter the settings I need for clay and even fire polishing my glass pieces! Sorry so long winded! I just want to get over the hump I find myself in! O and my question was going to be is the clay still good

    Hi Deborah, the clay is most likely not still good. Squeeze the package and if the clay is rock hard it is not still good. Hope this helps!

    i have a question i got a kit as a gift the kit has a kiln that uses a blue sterno tablet and lit in a opening in the kiln the kit came with pmc flex i also tried EZ 960 that i got from cooltools the i made a small ring as a test to try it out the issue is the ring came out brittle it was a little deformed when i tried to bend it straight it broke the out side of it is silver but the center is chalky white i file off the white area and it is silver i am curious if im doing something wrong with the firing directions are all in japanese

  • @cooltoolsvideos

    @cooltoolsvideos

    Hi Nicholas, a sterno tablet sounds like you are using a hot pot. EZ960 requires a kiln to sinter - it would most likely not sinter using a hot pot. The recommended firing temperature and time for EZ960 is 1675°F for 2 hours. You can find PMC Flex instructions on our website here: www.cooltools.us/Precious-Metal-Clay-PMC-Flex-p/pmc-305-p.htm Hope this helps!

    Sterling Silver clay cannot be torch fired. There are some fine silver clays that can be torch fired, but we wouldn't recommend them for use as rings, as you'd want a stronger metal such as sterling silver for rings. Check out our Learning Center to learn more :) www.cooltools.us/Metal-Clay-s/2330.htm

    You're paying more for it than spot price because you can make jewelry without smelting metal, sand casting, and working your design in hard metal. Obviously it's much easier to make a piece of jewelry using the clay. Nothing is stopping you from either doing your own metal smelting and sand casting, or making your own roller, pattern, spacers, etc to save money. What you're paying for with the clay is convenience and saving time. I don't know if you value your time. If you don't, just skip the clay and go the long route.

    This seemed like a great tutorial until I followed it. The masking tape didn't just "burn away" in my kiln it caught fire. When trying to take care of that my ring band shattered. I wondered why I hadn't seen that method shown in other places... Now I know why.

    Clay is great, but it’s no substitute for being a skilled craftsperson. I can imagine someone showing this finished item to someone and saying ‘I’m a jeweller, I made this’ and the reality is they didn’t and probably couldn’t hand carve this detail, so they wouldn’t really have made this, they cheated.

    I totally agree with you. More on this : precious metal clay, once cooked, is waaay inferior compared to cold forged metal. And the finishing on this ring is no match for a real one.
